Professional Services
Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness
Director of Communications 2012-
Consciousness outreach. I routinely manage our Facebook and Twitter social
platforms to distribute consciousness-related formal and informal events to our ~800
subscribers and manage the monthly member newsletter. I’m currently working on is a
virtual platform that will facilitate mutual awareness and networking between ASSC
members. This involves mapping affiliated institutions and distributing info about their
formal/informal activities. An internet representation of ASSC members and their
work is an excellent tool for consciousness outreach.
Newsletter 2009-
I distribute the monthly newsletter to the ~1000 members of ASSC.
Student Committee Chair & Member 2008-2011
The student committee takes care of all student-related off and on-site activities and
events. In these three years, our team organized the Student Social, Poor-men’s Dinner,
Student Poster Award, Mentoring Lunch events and Room-Sharing services during the
annual meetings at Taipei (2008), Toronto (2009), and Berlin (2010).
The 12th annual ASSC meeting at Taipei 2007-2008
I am one of the core team members who managed the first ASSC12 annual meeting in
Asia. My main tasks were website design and IT communications, member and
participant management, Master of Ceremony, and English translator and trainer of
student volunteers.
Evolutionary Studies Group at University of Missouri
Co-Principal Investigator 2011-
I participated in writing the successful 2nd round Mizzou Advantage Network Grant
“Collaborative Portals for Interdisciplinary Working Groups: Evolutionary Studies and
Science Studies” and supervised the construction of an interactive Web 2.0
“Collaborative Portals,” a platform for blogs and discussions that showcase talks and
interviews by scholars (conducted by student journalists) and hosts a wiki-dictionary
for explaining terms across disciplines.
Research Assistant 2010-2011
I worked as a Research Assistant during the 1st Round Mizzou Advantage Network
Grant to help establish the Evolutionary Studies Group (http://
evolution.missouri.edu). I manage the website and help organize and run the monthly
Evoblitzes and the big EvoTalks colloquia. The Evolutionary Studies group at the
University of Missouri comprises a loosely affiliated group of faculty and students
with a common interest in exploring biological evolution, its development, and its
impact across traditional academic disciplines including the natural sciences, the social
sciences, and the humanities.
