pipe sealing technology. Forsheda
has pioneered many new sealing
systems including integrated seals
for concrete and plastic pipes
whereby the seal is integrated into

With almost 50 years of experience in material,
design and development, our highly trained
research and development team is continuously
working to improve existing and develop new
sealing systems with a strong focus on the pipe
industry. With leading design facilities, the seals
are engineered to meet the highest demands
of the pipe user, while incorporating in-depth
knowledge of pipe production. With advanced
non-linear finite element computer modeling
software (FEA) the engineers can predict the
performance of joints and seals in application to
a high degree of accuracy. All seal designs are
tested in the Trelleborg Pipe Seals laboratory
and are fully supported by our technical team.

Responsibility
for the future
Environmental Policy and Climate Strategy
In 2009, the Trelleborg Group adopted a revised
environmental policy and target indicators were
established in certain key areas to enable a better
monitoring of the implementation and compliance.
Trelleborg also produced a climate-change
strategy and targets to supplement the
environmental policy.
Recycling and minimalizing
Evaluating the environmental impact of all raw materials and
production processes has resulted in the elimination of toxic oil
additives from rubber mixtures in the manufacturing process.
In addition to minimalizing the rejected and waste matierial results
in the extensive use of recyclable materials in the process. Because
of this awareness, all European factories are ISO 14001 accredited.

Securing value

Pipe sealing solutions for every industry
Trelleborg has a long history in sealing solutions. In close cooperation with
customers, pipe machine manufacturers and industry specifiers, with a
variety of production processes or pipe applications, Trelleborg always has
or can develop the correct seal.
Concrete pipe systems and manholes
Trelleborg is the leading expert in Europe for concrete pipeline
sealing systems. This has resulted in a comprehensive range
of sealing solutions from basic rolling seals, sliding joints,
pre-lubricated systems to fully integrated joints where the
seal is cast into the concrete unit during manufacturing. We
also supply manhole seals with an integrated load distributor
element which transmits vertical loads through joint whilst
preventing concrete to concrete contact and thereby potential
structural failure.
Ductile Iron applications
While most varieties of cast iron are brittle, ductile iron is
much more flexible and elastic, due to its nodular graphite
inclusions. Trelleborg manufactures seals for ductile iron pipe
applications for water, sewerage and drainage. Examples are
seals for pipelines carrying water and hydrocarbon fluids
(STD-seal, double hardness seal).

Plastic pipe systems and manholes
Trelleborg has been supplying rubber ring joints to
manufacturers of plastic pipe systems for both water
mains and sewer/drainage systems since the early
days. In the pressure market Trelleborg provides both
integrated and non-integrated seals. These seals vary
from full rubber designs to two component, co-moulded
seals. In non-pressure applications Trelleborg provides a
wide variety of products, with an expertise in Structural
Wall Pipe (SWP) seals.
Connector seals
As a full range supplier Trelleborg also provides connection
solutions for pipe to manhole or pipe to pipe connections.
Trelleborg can offer a wide range of solutions for any type
of pipe (PVC, PE, PP, concrete, clay, cast iron) that is
connected to a manhole.

With highly-automated factories throughout Europe and the USA Trelleborg Pipe Seals
manufactures millions of quality seals every year using a variety of processes. The expertise
in moulding and extrusion is seen in all facilities. To make sure every seal can live up
to the highest standard, Trelleborg Pipe Seals holds a world class quality management
and all facilities are ISO 9001:2008 accredited.
Moulding
Both compression and injection
moulding systems are used for
manufacturing seals from 50mm to
over 800mm in diameter.
Two component seal manufacturing
is also a manufacturing process
in which Trelleborg Pipe Seals had
gained a long experience. Examples
are EPDM rubber and Polypropylene
and co-injection of Thermo Plastic
Elastomer and Polypropylene.
The seal profile is extruded and
vulcanized before being cut to the
specific length and spliced.
Vulcanisation of the joint is achieved
using injection, compression or film
splicing technology. Many of the
manufactured profiles are tailored to
suit specific customer applications and
demands.
Advanced co-extrusion capability
allows manufacturing of profiles with
two different compounds.
This technique enables compounds of
different performance characteristics to
be combined in one profile to optimize
product performance.
