8 CURRICULUM
Blairgowrie High School
Prospectus 2012/2013
Blairgowrie High School has been taking advantage of the new curricular arrangements to allow
pupils to choose their Standard Grade courses at the end of S1. This will mean that pupils will
sit their Standard Grade examinations one year earlier than usual, i.e. at the end of S3. The big
advantage of this is that it will allow two years for study at Higher Grade instead of one. In 2014,
Standard Grades (and Intermediate exams) are due to be replaced by two new qualifications;
National 4 and National 5 Awards.
Further, it will allow vocational courses to be taken in S4 for non-Higher pupils.
The intention is to raise attainment within the school. Evidence from schools who have already
taken this step is very encouraging.
