Blairgowrie High School Prospectus 2012/2013 ASSESSMENT The school is required to report to parents once per session for each year group with an additional settling in report for S1 and S5. The timing of reports is matched with parents evenings, either to give two reports per year - one written, and one verbal (at parents evenings), or to support the option process. 2011/2012 Written Report Parents Evenings: Stage Written Report Parents Evening S1 March 2012 March 2012 S2 June 2012 January 2012 S3 February 2012 November 2011 S4 February 2012 November 2011 S5/6 December 2011 October 2011 In addition pupils are provided with a Pupil Planner, which they are required to complete and maintain at all times. Pupils discuss their progress with each subject teacher concerned and agree to set achievable targets for the pupil to aim towards; these are noted in the Planner. At appropriate times these targets are revised, along with levels of work which are required to be undertaken. Parents are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the details noted in the planner. In S1 the report shows the level achieved in the portion of work completed at the time of reporting and is used to advise pupils and parents in March, when pupils choose the subjects they will study in the following two years. From S2 upwards, reports contain a profile of pupil competence in different areas of the subject. In Standard Grade; Intermediate 1 and 2; Higher and Advanced Higher. This is usually based on continuous assessment and examinations. A written comment allows the teacher to inform parents of the pupil’s attitude and diligence. All reports contain information on pupil attendance. Parents are invited to respond to the teacher’s written comments. 21 ASPIRE
ASPIRE Blairgowrie High School Prospectus 2012/2013 SEX EDUCATION Sex education is one important aspect of your son/daughter’s personal and social development. It is part of a full and focussed programme about relationships and healthy living and delivered as an age appropriate subject from first to fourth year. Careful monitoring is used to ensure that:- • National and Authority guidelines are adhered to. • Teaching and learning are appropriate to children’s age, understanding and development. • No inappropriate teaching or use of inappropriate materials occur. PERSONAL AND CAREERS GUIDANCE These are provided by the guidance team who augment careers advice by bringing in visiting speakers. Curricular guidance is provided by guidance staff in conjunction with the Depute Headteacher in charge of the Curriculum and by individual subject teachers, who know the capabilities of the pupils they teach. Skills Development Scotland has a member of staff attached to the school, in support of the Education Authority’s Careers Education Policy. The following services are provided: • Individual pupil interviews on a first come first served basis. • S4 – S6 school leavers and option talks through the Social Education Programme. • An action plan for every pupil. • Support in updating the school library. • Assistance with placing into employment and training. • Lunch time drop-in clinics.
