SEX EDUCATION<br />
Sex education is one important aspect of your son/daughter’s personal and social development. It<br />
is part of a full and focussed programme about relationships and healthy living and delivered as an<br />
age appropriate subject from first to fourth year.<br />
Careful monitoring is used to ensure that:-<br />
• National and Authority guidelines are adhered to.<br />
• Teaching and learning are appropriate to children’s age, understanding and development.<br />
• No inappropriate teaching or use of inappropriate materials occur.<br />
PERSONAL AND CAREERS GUIDANCE<br />
These are provided by the guidance team who augment careers advice by bringing in visiting<br />
speakers. Curricular guidance is provided by guidance staff in conjunction with the Depute<br />
Headteacher in charge of the Curriculum and by individual subject teachers, who know the<br />
capabilities of the pupils they teach.<br />
Skills Development Scotland has a member of staff attached to the school, in support of the<br />
Education Authority’s Careers Education Policy. The following services are provided:<br />
• Individual pupil interviews on a first come first served basis.<br />
• S4 – S6 school leavers and option talks through the Social Education Programme.<br />
• An action plan for every pupil.<br />
• Support in updating the school library.<br />
• Assistance with placing into employment and training.<br />
• Lunch time drop-in clinics.<br />
