Did you know that Los Angeles County residents consume approximately six billion plastic bags each year? The County is committed to reducing the amount of plastic bags that end up along roadways or in storm drains, or make their way to the ocean. New Law Regarding Cell Phone Use in California Takes Effect July 1, 2008 The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reminds you that effective July 1, 2008, California law will: • Prohibit the use of “hand-held” cell phones among drivers 18 years and older, except for emergency calls to law enforcement and public safety agencies, and for certain commercial vehicles for which the law’s effective date is July 1, 2011. • Prohibit a driver under the age of 18 years from using ANY wireless device, even if equipped with a hands-free or mobile service device, except during an emergency. Digital Television In less than a year, the country will change the way it sends television signals. Your TV signal is switching to “digital.” After February 17, 2009, most of the old analog signals will be gone and most of the stations will use only the new digital signals. What does this mean to you? • If all of your TVs are hooked up to cable or satellite, you will continue to get your TV after the switch. Check with your cable or satellite company to be sure. • If you have digital TV, you are ready for the switch. If your TV is more than 10 years old it probably is not digital. If it is less than 10 years old, ask the manufacturer if your TV is “analog-only.” • If you have an analog-only TV with a roof top antenna or “rabbit ears,” you will need to purchase a converter box.
