“The Night of the Golden
Dragon” is the theme of
prom April 4 at The Rose
Garden.
Oriental designs and
decorations will fill the
room. Tickets are on sale
now during all three
lunches. Cost is $50 per
couple and $30 per single.
The most exciting dance
in high school, everyone is
scattering to get everything
they need: a dress, tux,
tickets, flowers, earrings,
hair and nail appointments,
dinner plans, and,
of course, a location
where everyone will
meet for pictures. This
is a night that we will
never want to forget
and every detail
will be well
planned to be
fun and perfect.
The day
before
prom is
very
important
for us to double check everything,
especially film or batteries
for the camera, a definite
must to capture some
images of the big night. Girls
doing their hair and makeup
themselves should do a trial
run on their chosen style and
prepare their bag the night
before to include
money,
lip gloss, perfume,
and
make-up for
touch-ups.
The afterparty
is as
exciting as
the actual prom so choose
activities wisely to stay safe.
After you get tired of dancing
and eating, head home
with your friends and have
a sleepover.
If the party gets over before
midnight, catch up on
some movies at a theatre. If
there is enough time even after
the movie ends,go to a
restaurant and have midnight
snacks or go to a
karaoke joint and sing the
night away. Invite all your
friends and head home,
stopping at a grocery store
on the way. Collect all kinds
of junk food and relax around
the comforts of home.
For those not planning on
going to prom for whatever
reason, don’t just sit at
home. Go on a mini-vacation
trip, or be creative.
Organize a paintball
tournament.
No one dressed in
prom clothes would
dare undertake this
fun way to get messy.
Enjoy this sport while
others worry about
staining their expen-
A night
to remember
Stay safe, have fun
sive clothes at the
prom. Find hideous
clothes that have been
hiding in the back of
your closet, then go out
and have fun. If the
day is warm enough,
how about a jump in
the pool or lake right
after? You could also
go for the classic
amusement park outing
and ride every ride
twice.
While making your
prom plans, take a
minute to think about
how you’ll avoid getting
into an unwanted situation.
It’s your prom; make
the memories yours
and enjoy your night
the way you want to.

The intensity of the
Chapel Hill meet could be
felt as the Bulldogs took the
field for the first time this
season until the running
events which started off with
a bang ...or an earthquake
in the “big man relay,” where
“non-runners” were encouraged
to participate in a running
event.
After the BMRs the running
events started with the
sprint relay where the Bulldogs
pulled a close second
and finally with the 1600
meter relay capped off the
The SAT, used for admission
to most colleges and
toqualify for scholarships, is
a 3- hour, 45-minute test
given on a Saturday morning
seven times a year. It
consists of ten alternating
sections testing verbal,
math, and writing skills and
requiring a written essay.
This year, for the first
time, the school is offering
a course that teaches Tactical
SAT Strategies. It’s a
12 hour seminar that
teaches students how to
take the test, practical
strategies that have
boosted participants scores
as much as 300 points.
“All students who took
the first course in January
raised their scores significantly,”
assistant superintendent
Dr. Donni Cook
said. “The only student who
did not came from another
school and did not attend
every class.”
The cost is only $30,
which includes two review
booklets and a sample test.
“A friend of mine in California
took the same
course, which she found
online and paid $300,” junior
Julie Ann Apoderado
said. “This price is a bargain.”
Two SAT test dates remain:
May 2 and June 6.
SAT class 1 to prepare
for the May 2 test will be
held Saturday, April 13
from 9-12 and 1-4; April 14-
16 from 3:30-4:30; and April
21-23 from 3:30-4:30.
SAT class 2 to prepare
for the May test will be held
April 21 from 6-9; April 23
from 6-9; April 28 from 6-9;
and April 30 from 6-9. Instructors
are Dr. Cook,
Melanie Little, Sara
Dickerson Engelking,
Bettye Morris, Karan
Murphree, Andrea Pirtle,
and Jeanine Sulser.
At least two classes will
be held May 25, 26, and 28
and June 3, 4, and 5 to prepare
for the June 6 test.
“I was actually surprised,”
junior Casey Mott
said. “There was stuff I
learned that will really help
me on the SAT, and I had fun
learning it with friends.”
Some of the more popular
techniques presented
included the Magic Number
List, recognizing the SPA
questions, knowing which
questions to answer first,
and knowing how to keep
from being JAS (just another
student).
“I thank you, and my
scores will, too,” junior
Marvin Garcia said.
Other comments:
“Thank you, guys, for
making this as fun as possible,”
junior Sai Reddy said.
“It’s totally worth it, dude.”
“I really liked how relaxed
the class was,” junior
Eric O’Hara said. “I highly
recommend taking this
course.”
The thoughtful team at Kelly Services in Longview organized a
drive to collect over 150 gorgeous gowns and prom dresses to
distribute free this weekend. A parent or guardian must call in
advance to schedule a time to pick up a dress Saturday, April
