PAGE 4 MOPANI NEWS - Friday 6 July 2012 NEWS Women’s caucus launched Greater <strong>Letaba</strong> Municipality officially launched its women's caucus at Leeuwdraai r e c e n t l y. The Caucus is a platform for women to interact about issues affecting them and the community, seeking advice and tackling challenges together. The Mayor of Greater <strong>Letaba</strong> Municipality, City Modjadji said the caucus is a perfect platform for women to interact and share ideas to build the nation. "We know that without women, we are as good as dead as a nation," said the Modjadji. The caucus also allows women to coordinate and support women in the municipality and advocate political and other programmes that directly affects women. The caucus will lobby the municipal council on women and gender issues and ensure that women are empowered and that men are gender sensitive. The caucus will aim to ensure municipal laws and policies are gender sensitive amd monitor council coordination and implementation processes. They will also empower and strengthen women leaders, including making appropriate linkages with women in the Institution of traditional leadership to promote public participation, motivate and ensure that women present concept papers on economic development, social transformation, women and media. The caucus also motivate and unite women in local municipalities and liaise with relevant stakeholders and other institutions. They debate on women’s issues in various study groups and increase leadership support for planning in the areas of HIV/Aids, unemployment and poverty. Supplies donated to clinic A medical waste services company, Buhle Waste, donated the much <strong>need</strong>ed medical supplies and equipment to Motupa Clinic in Bolobedu last Wednesday. The Polokwane based company presented a donation of 19 boxes of surgical and disposable supplies, diagnostic equipment, blood pressure monitors, cleaning equipment and other products to the rural health institution. The clinic also received fluorescent, standard and flood light bulbs to make work safer and easier for night shift staff. Acting Genera Manager of Buhle Waste, Mpho Ngoatje said the donation follows after the Municipal Ward Councillor, Moss Mahasha, approached the Director of Buhle, Dr Phetole Sekete, to help the clinic that was experiencing the shortage of medical supplies as a result of the placing of the Department of Health under administration by the national government. He said after Dr Sekete assessed the situation he decided to donate the most <strong>need</strong>ed medical equipment and supplies. Ngoatje said the donation is part of the company's way of reaching out to the communities where they do <strong>bus</strong>iness. "I hope the medical supplies will improve health and save the lives of thousands of people in this area," he said. He added that the company is committed to enhancing the health of the people. A professional clinical nurse, Khomotso Oliphant expressed appreciation to Buhle Waste for donating medical items, which she says are critical to the delivery of quality health <strong>car</strong>e. "We appreciate your generosity. The supplies will make such a difference," said Oliphant. In addition to thanking the Buhle for the donation, Oliphant lauded the immense support the Ward Councillor, Moss Mahasha had rendered to the clinic since last year. "He is very passionate when it comes to this clinic and his support contributed greatly to the general improvement of conditions at the institution," she said. Councillor Moss Mahasha said the supplies donated by Buhle will greatly assist health <strong>car</strong>e workers as they <strong>car</strong>e for their patients. He commended Buhle, particularly, Dr Sekete for the donation which will assist the people in <strong>need</strong> of medical <strong>car</strong>e to access it at the clinic. Speaking on behalf of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Councillor Letty Hlangwani said she was overwhelmed by the donation and did not have enough words to thank Buhle, particularly Dr Sekete for the life saving supplies. She said the donation shows how a Public-Private partnership can play a role to speed up the delivery of services. Well known face at Chicken Licken retires A well known face at Chicken Licken Tzaneen, Jane Mothiba retires. Jane was born in Haenertsburg. Her father was a <strong>bus</strong>driver for Maponja Bus Services. When Jane was a little girl, they moved to Pusela. Her parents urged her to start working at a very young age. In 1978 she was employed at Kentucky in Tzaneen. After 10 years, in 1988, her employers, the Smit family, opened Chicken Licken in Tzaneen and they appointed her as manageress in this new <strong>bus</strong>iness. In 1996 Chicken Licken was sold to the Lombard family and Jane still operated as manageress. She is extremely accurate with figures - a fenominal woman, bearing in mind that she had to leave school after standard 6. Her motto is, if you want to do something, you CAN do it! Now, after 25 years of service as manageress at Chicken Licken Tzaneen, she is retiring. The owners of Chicken Licken Tzaneen thank her for all the years of loyalty and good service, and wishes her good health and and all of the best where she is going to stay at Mothibaskraal. ‘O sepele ka kgotso, o be le maikutso a mabotse'.
