thelma mitchell [Hillston]
Thelma was born in Hillston and turned 84 in
2012. She would have loved to have been a nurse
but unfortunately she never had that opportunity
due to her mother’s poor health – instead Thelma
stayed on the family farm to help her parents.
Thelma delights in volunteering through many
worthy local organisations. She is the immediate
past President of the Hillston Hospital Auxiliary
and has just taken on the role of Treasurer. She
has been a member of the Auxiliary for many
years and has held all executive positions. Thelma
volunteers for many other local organisations and
was a member of the Foundation Committee for
Lachlan Lodge (aged care facility) for 11 years, the
Uniting Church Committee for 20 years, Hillston
Country Women’s Association and Probus. She
also helps at Bowls Club and with Can Assist.
Thelma really loves coming to the hospital on her
regular weekly rostered day to play bingo with the
residents and is a real gem and a true rural Hidden
Treasure.
