The Ministry of Education and Science of<br />
Albania and the UNESCO Venice Office<br />
convened an expert meeting and the<br />
4th High-Level Round Table of Ministers<br />
responsible for science and higher<br />
education in South Eastern Europe on 21-<br />
22 May <strong>2010</strong> in Tirana, Albania.<br />
The event was dedicated to a reflection on how<br />
bi-lateral agreements of cooperation in science<br />
and research can be better expanded in order<br />
to boost the performance and competitive<br />
basis of scientific research in South East<br />
Europe. This event was aimed at enhancing the<br />
success rate of the South East Europe research<br />
teams in European and international research<br />

Through a pilot initiative, the UNESCO Venice Office and<br />
CERN will offer to young scientists from SEE countries<br />
the chance of undertaking a 3-month research period<br />
at CERN, one of the world’s largest and most respected<br />
centres for scientific research.<br />
Subject to the successful performance<br />
of the selected candidates, UNESCO’s<br />
3 month grant will be prolonged with<br />
an additional 3 months by CERN.<br />
The 3 UNESCO grants at CERN will<br />
be awarded to: Ms Angela Gligorova<br />
(The former Yugoslav Republic<br />
of Macedonia), Mr Ivan Nisandzic<br />
(Bosnia & Herzegovina), Ms Valbona<br />
Tahiri (Albania). An additional CERN<br />
research grant has been awarded<br />
to: Ms Emina Dzaferovic - Bosnia &<br />

“La Pianificazione dello Spazio Marittimo (MSP) obiettivi comuni europei e indicazioni per le amministrazioni locali” - 4<br />
- 5 June <strong>2010</strong> – Venice Pianeta Acqua International organized a specialized course (conducted in Italian), on the “Maritime Spatial Planning<br />
(MSP)” promoted by the UNESCO Venice Office, CORILA (Consortium for Coordination of Research for the Venice Lagoon System) and the<br />
University IUAV of Venice. This specialized course was aimed at exchanging common experiences related to a new integrated maritime policy of<br />
sustainable development in coastal areas.<br />
MSc course in the “Management of Protected Areas” – University of Klagenfurt The training course designed for planners and<br />
managers of protected areas throughout Europe held a 3 days session in Venice at the Office’s conference facilities from 22 to 26 April <strong>2010</strong>.<br />
The UNESCO Venice Office has contributed to the course’s content.<br />
