The Jules Stein parking lot (JS lot) and the Stein Plaza drop-off area will be closed from April 2, 2012 until early November
2012. Patients should avoid Stein Plaza and proceed to the designated parking/drop-off area on the upper level of the
Center for Health Sciences (CHS) parking structure at 10833 Le Conte Ave., near the intersection of Le Conte Ave. and
Tiverton Drive (see red arrow on map below).
• Pay-by-space patient parking is available in Plazas 1-3 (located on the top, open-air levels of the parking structure).
Plaza 4 and all lower levels of the CHS parking structure are reserved for permit holders.
• Parking paystations are located near the Plaza 1 and Plaza 2 elevators. When exiting your vehicle, make note of your
posted parking space # as you will need it to pay for parking. The parking fee is $1 for 40 min, $3/hr and $11 for the
whole day (no in-and-out privileges). The paystations accept Visa and MasterCard. For those paying cash, the
paystations accept exact payment only, using $1, $5 or $10 bills (no change given).
• A parking ambassador will be near the Plaza 1 and 2 paystations from 6 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday, to assist
with wayfinding.
In addition to the JS parking lot closure, the Jules Stein and Doris Stein building entrances which face the Stein Plaza
drop-off area and the Wasserman Building construction site will be inaccessible, and alternate building entrances must
be used. Instructions for entering the buildings are on the back side of this flyer. Patients with limited mobility:
Please see the back side of this flyer for detailed instructions about where to park.
Please be sure you know which building you will be visiting — the Jules Stein Eye Institute (JSEI) or the Doris
Stein Eye Research Center (DSERC). Follow the directions below to locate the entrance, or have someone drop you
off at the most convenient spot.
JSEI drop-off point and entrance: If you are visiting JSEI, have your driver drop you off at the Plaza 1 elevator
on the top level of the CHS parking structure. To get there, drivers should take an immediate right when
entering the structure. You will see a wheelchair access ramp near this elevator which leads up to CHS Plaza
(large grassy lawn) and the east entrance of JSEI. You will enter JSEI on its first floor, near the University
Ophthalmology Associates information desk.
DSERC drop-off point and entrance: If you are visiting DSERC, have your driver drop you off at the Plaza 2
elevator on the top level of the CHS parking structure. Take the Plaza 2 elevator down to the ground level (C2)
and follow the designated, marked pathway to enter the bottom (B-level) of DSERC.
Access between JSEI and DSERC: To get from JSEI to DSERC, take the elevator down to the B-level, turn right
and proceed down the hallway to the outside elevator marked “Doris Stein.” Take that elevator down to the
ground level path to DSERC.
Patients with limited mobility: Patients with limited mobility should park in Plaza 1 if visiting JSEI, or Plaza 2
if visiting DSERC, then follow the directions above for entering each building. Plaza 1 contains handicapped
parking spaces and has a wheelchair access ramp near the elevator. Remember: There is no wheelchair
access between the plazas on the top level of the CHS parking structure. The pedestrian walkways that cross
horizontally near the plaza elevators all contain stairs.
