FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL Mr S Stretton - Acting HOMS Well done to all of the Junior School students for some great participation in the Junior School Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. The glorious weather ensured a wonderful day and it was great to see the students marching, cheering, running, jumping and being involved in a great variety of activities. Many thanks to the staff and the parents who helped out on the day. Special thanks go to Miss Byrnes who put so much effort into organising and running the event - it was appreciated by all. We wish those students who will be participating in the Hunter Region Independent Schools Athletics Carnival at Glendale next Tuesday a successful and enjoyable day. Congratulations to the following students who received Bronze Awards this week: Chloe Banks, Brianna Forbes, Perry Gallimore, James Gill, Jessica Retzlaff, Ben Carey, Yasmin Gupta, Hannah McCullum, Azeem Travadi, Jacob Burnham, Rhiannon Harvey and Beatrice Wardhaugh. Well done to you all! YEAR 3 BASIC SKILLS ASSESSMENTS Year 3 will undertake their Basic Skills Assessments over the next week. They will do the Literacy and Numeracy assessment on Thursday 1st and Writing on Monday 6th. Parents can support their child by making sure that they have a good night's sleep the previous night, that they have a settled start to the day and arrive early to be organised for the commencement of School. Assessments will be undertaken in the early part of each day. 6
FoundersÊ/GrandparentsÊ Day - At Park Campus Bush Picnic Friday, 3 August 2007 - 12 noon to 2:30pm We look forward to seeing Grandparents, Parents and Friends from 12 noon. This year we plan a BUSH THEME - Bush Band, Dancing, and Bush Picnic on the playground. The children will perform some choir items. Children are asked to bring a "Jackeroos / Jillaroo" costume to change into on the day. (Grandparents and Parents are invited to dress up as well!!) There will be barbecue sausages, yummy coffee, ice creams and lemonade for sale at lunchtime. Families are requested to bring chairs and the extra food/drink they need. All classes will attend the special Chapel service in Christ Church Cathedral at 9:15am. Buses will take the students to Christ Church Cathedral and return around 11:00am for recess and time to change into their costumes to enjoy the remainder of the day. Should it rain, we will run what we can in the Sandi Warren Performance Centre. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SCHOOL FAMILIES JOINING US TO CELEBRATE THE SCHOOL'S BIRTHDAY RECOVERY CONCERT This will be held on Friday 7 September. Students will be performing items. We are also arranging for some former Junior School students to return to the stage for us. If there are any parents who would like to kick up their heels or stretch their vocal cords and entertain us we would like to hear from you. Please contact Mr Sarich. YEAR 3 & 4 STRINGS Students in Years 3 & 4 who may have School string instruments at home have been asked to return them to School. Please return them to class teachers. Mr D Sarich JUNIOR SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2007 REPORT: The rain finally stayed away and we received a fantastic day for the Junior School Athletics Carnival on Tuesday, 31 July 2007. The day started with some well-polished Marching in House groups followed by students displaying some fantastic performances and personal bests on the track and in the field. Hunter won the Marching Award with a brilliant team effort and Shortland set a new standard in Junior School cheering by winning the cheering trophy. K-1 students also showed some talents as they tackled their novelty events. Eventual house winners were SHORTLAND on 278 points, HUNTER on 263 points, Macquarie on 259 points and TYRRELL on 170 points. Age Champions were: BOYS 7/8 Years 1. Mason Boyd 23 pts 2.
