The building of the Institute of
Oceanography at the University of
Gdansk exemplifies a modern style
of architecture, in which both look
and function are adjusted to meet
the requirements of the building’s
didactic and research purposes.
The facade is a combination of soft,
light-green glass panels and intense turquoise-coloured
elements covered with
patinated copper sheet TECU® Patina.
The arrangement of the glass panels on
the facade of the building gives the impression
of sea waves. Glass and copper
elevation makes the heavy body of the
building appear much lighter.
The top part of the building resembles a
wheelhouse of a ship, while the hanging
passageway linking the faculty buildings
resembles a gangway because of
its lightweight construction of glass and
patinated copper.
The 1300 sq metres surface area of the
facade has been covered with copper
sheet TECU® Patina with a thickness
of 0.7 mm. Patina has also been used to
decorate the interior of the building.
