DANNY<br />

COLIN<br />

96 will be out soon. Ambidextrous<br />

manual safety. But you'll know<br />

(eyes Danny)<br />

I guess you probably know why<br />

you're drifting.<br />

DANNY<br />

I guess I probably do. But then<br />

who knows, life's a mystery.<br />

Colin steps forward. May I? Danny steps back and Colin<br />

picks up the weapon. Expertly loads. BLAM! Another shot. *<br />

Middle of the head. Three more shots in a perfect "X"<br />

grouping. Danny eyes him.<br />

COLIN<br />

I used to do a bit of biathlon.<br />

You know. The skiing, and ...<br />

DANNY<br />

I know what it is.<br />

6 INT. RUTH'S HOUSE - DAY 1. 0950<br />

A rambling house. An old REDIFFUSION television is on. An<br />

old 40s B&W movie. Something with a close up of chaste<br />

clinch: " I have to go. I must." We take in the clutter, the *<br />

books strewn everywhere, the lush velvet drapes and throws,<br />

and a PERSIAN GREY.<br />

Ruth is watching, enrapt. There’s tea on a small table. One<br />

cup. A doorbell chimes. Ruth looks out of the window to see<br />

MALCOLM is out there, loitering furtively.<br />

She ushers him in - "it's open". He comes to the living room<br />

door and pauses politely. He's holding a Jiffy Bag.<br />

MALCOLM<br />

I'm off to curling club this<br />

afternoon, I wondered if you ...<br />

RUTH<br />

No thanks Malcolm. All the same.<br />
