January 2013
This factsheet is available in alternative formats. For more information please
The Fascism Literature Special Collection is comprised of books, individual issues of journals,
pamphlets and microform on fascism (the theory and movements in, mainly, Britain, Italy and
Germany) and anti-fascism. Many of the publications date from the 1930s and 1940s. The
Collection is a valuable resource for research.
The Collection
All the material in the Collection appears on The Catalogue. You can search for items by author or
keyword, and because all the material is classified, by classification number or subject. You can
restrict your search by selecting ‘Fascism Literature’ (from the drop down menu) as a collection to
search separately.
Not all the material is located on the open shelves. Check the location of items from the
Collection by clicking on ‘Check Availability’ and ‘Show Details’. Restricted Access items
which are available for consultation will be located in the Library Archive Room.

Books
These are mostly interfiled with the Library main collection on the open shelves or located in the
closed access store.
Most material is available to borrow and is not restricted.
Microform
The microfilm and fiche in the Collection is kept in a locked cabinet on Floor 2 with the Microform
Collection. Access is not restricted to specific individuals but users will need to have the cabinet
key issued on their TUSC. The key is kept at the Library iZone.
The microform is for reference only and can be viewed on reader/printers located on Floor 2 of the
Library.
Restricted material
This material, mainly pamphlets and journal issues, is kept in the Library Archives Room and
access is restricted to
teaching and research staff from the School of Arts & Media; MPhil and PhD students from
the School and students who are on a BA or MA history programme in the School
other users who have permission to use this part of the Collection. Permission can be
requested by emailing LISFascism@tees.ac.uk.
Accessing restricted material
Specific members of staff are responsible for making restricted material available and staff at the
Library iZone will not have authority to remove material from the Archives Room.
To arrange access, users should email their request to LISFascism@tees.ac.uk
We can accept requests for individually named items or for material from a particular classification
range. All details are available on The Catalogue. Items will be brought from the Archives Room to
the Library iZone and a confirmation email will be sent to you. The material will be kept at the
Library iZone for a week during which time it will be available for you to consult in the Library. You
will need your TUSC to have items issued to you. All restricted material is for reference use only.
We will notify you if the material is currently being used by another researcher and arrange for you
to have access to items at a convenient future date.
Handling restricted material
Restricted material is vulnerable and it is important that it is handled with care so it is not damaged.
Please ensure that your hands are clean before handling documents and avoid
touching the text of documents.
Care should be taken when removing material from the protective plastic wallets.
Single sheet documents should not be removed from their protective covers.
Please make sure documents are kept safely on tables.
Use pencil to make notes from the documents and do not mark them in any way.

should be taken when handling material to be copied.
