CHECK OUT GARAGE TOUR INSIDE!
May 2009
NNR member, Neil and Connie
Hughes, received their
ODMA Senior Award from
Old Dominion Meet Association
President, Ken Talley of
the Tidewater Region, at Manassas,
VA on Saturday May
16, 2009 with their Model A
Ford. Neil drives his cars, so
naturally he and Connie
drove to Manassas, Virginia.
Cleaning up a show car is not
an easy task, especially after
driving 220 miles or so on the
highway.
Here’s a picture of Neil and Connie coming into
the registration booth! Neil was a little late for this
show. Seems that the large building growth in the
Manassas area has left some items behind….like
this roofing nail in Neil’s tire! Neil had to change
this on the
side of the
road before
entering the
show field.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT
May 16, 2009
Our first three Cruise Ins came off very well -- The attendance
and comraderie was great -- Thanks to Jack
Ashburn and Peyton Guest. There was only one problem, a
few of you did not come to either. You can atone for this on
the 4th Sunday in Tappahannock.
Our next event is the Locust Grove White Stone Methodist
Church Car Show on May 23rd at 10 AM. Mary Brill will
lead us from from the Bank of Lancaster in White Stone
Saturday morning at 8:45. I understand that they may have
as many as 200 cars -- maybe we can learn something
from them.
Our incentive program is up and running. The first three
are: Jack Vogel, Neil Hughes and a two way tie for third,
Rodney McKenny and Joe Sawyer.
On the 16th is the ODMA car show in Manasas. We do not
have a tour set up for this one, but I understand that Neil
Hughes is going so you might want to hook up with him if
you have a interest.
A little further ahead is the Fredericksburg meet on Saturday
the 6th of June. Last year we had eleven cars partict, ipate
in the event. This is a great show for the la
dies, in Old Town Fredericksburg with great shops and
interesting dinning. We'll be meeting at Hardies in Warsaw
at 815 AM.
We still have plenty of club shirts in most all sizes. I'll bring
them to the meeting on Thursday.
Our Northern Neck license plate badges are in, and they
look great. We'll pass out the remainder of them at the
meeting for only $15.00.
See you there. Steve
Northern Neck Region, AACA
Meeting Minutes – 4/23/09
Steve Lowe called the meeting to order at 7:30
PM. There were no new members or guests present.
Mae Lynne Guest presented her Treasurer’s Report
and an update on her progress (and Peyton’s) in learning
how to turn on their computer and receiving E-mail.
Included in the report were figures indicating the cost to
produce our Newsletter has been coming down slightly.
Steve asked those who are willing to receive the Newsletter
via E-mail instead of a hard copy to add their names
and E-mail addresses to a list being passed around. A motion
was made and approved to approve her report as read.
Ward Sevila talked about our new incentive program.
A couple additional changes have been proposed
that will provide greater points awarded for those actions
particularly important to the functioning of our club. The
program will be published again. A roster was passed
around so that meeting attendance could be recorded for
this program.
Sample trophies for our show were displayed by
Ward for consideration. Three were displayed for 1 st , 2 nd ,
and 3 rd place in the 20 classes now included on our show
flyer. Two additional would be required for the Best of
Show awards. Total cost would be about $600 for the
class awards plus another $100 for the two Best of Shows.
By a vote it was decided to go ahead and purchase trophies
as displayed with some changes to the car types at the tops.
It was agreed that we need to put more effort into getting
sponsors for the trophies this year and one way to do this
would be to form teams that would approach potential
sponsors.
Bob Nead said he has three bowling pin awards
that have been donated to us for our use and he hopes to
have them to show us at our next meeting.
Dewey talked about his effort to plan an over night
trip. He has decided Harper’s Ferry is too far and so he is
considering the Shenandoah Valley or possibly the Eastern
Shore.
Peyton talked about the Cruise-in at Romas in
Tappahannock this coming Sunday at 4 PM. The driver of
each car will receive a 50% meal discount (drinks not in-
cluded).
Steve asked where those going to the meet at
Locust Grove on May 23 should meet so they could
travel together. It was decided we would meet at the
Bank of Lancaster in White Stone at 9:00 on the 23 rd .
The show hours are from 10Am to 4PM.
Jack Ashburn told us that the Farm Museum has
invited us to their event on May 9 from 9-3. There is a
possibility that food tickets (1 person per car) will be provided.
Jack also said that the charge to use the picnic
site in Lively on 8/16 has been increased from $100 to
$150. After discussion of some other locations, it was
decided that Jack will check with the Lively Fire Department
regarding use of their site. Jack Vogel talked about
the need for an accurate count so we will know how
much food to buy for the picnic without the waste that we
have had in the past. After discussion, it was decided
that we will charge $2.00 per person for the picnic in advance
so people who sign up for it will be sure to attend.
Jack Ashburn told us that the medallions have
been ordered and should be available at our next meeting.
Half of the order has been sold at this time. Those who
have not purchased theirs could do so at the meeting
(cost is $15.00).
Additional discussion was held regarding the
need for something to add interest to participants and
their families at our car show. Neill Hughes talked about
an auction that was held at a recent Model A Ford show.
Other possibilities were mentioned with no further action.
Steve reminded us of the need to send articles for
the Newsletter to Isabelle. A front page picture is also
needed.
Steve asked for a volunteer to tell a joke at our
May meeting. No one volunteered.
Ron Cook won the 50-50.
Bob Nead mentioned that the Williamsburg Rod
Run is this weekend.
Wayne reminded us that the ODMA meet in Manassas
on 5/16 require pre-registration and he has flyers
available so anyone wanting to can sign up tonight.
Peyton asked us to remember Wayne DuBois in
our prayers. He is having a rough time and had surgery
on Monday. It was also mentioned that Al Kicinski is
doing OK after his surgery and was coming home today.
Jack Vogel told us that Frank Grant has been seriously ill
but that he saw him up and about recently. We wish all
of them a speedy recovery. Wayne said he would make
sure Becky Hamblin is aware of all three.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20.

Just Two Old Country Boys!
Two country boys were out hunting, and as they are walking
along they come upon a huge hole in the ground. They approach
it and are amazed by the size of it.
The first hunter says " Wow, that's some hole, I can't even see
the bottom. I wonder how deep it is?"
The second hunter says" I don't know, let's throw something
down and listen and see how long it takes to hit bottom.
The first hunter says " Hey, there's this old Ford transmission
here. It certainly isn’t worth anything. Give me a hand and
we'll throw it in and see".
So they pick it up and carry it over, and count one, and two
and three, and throw it in the hole.
They are standing there listening and looking over the edge
and they hear a rustling in the brush behind them. As they
turn around, they see a goat come crashing through the
brush, run up to the hole with no hesitation, and jump in
headfirst.
While they are standing there looking at each other, looking
in the hole, and trying to figure out what that was all about,
an old farmer walks up.
Say there", says the farmer, "you fellers didn't happen to see
my goat around here anywhere, did you?"
The first hunter says " Funny you should ask, but we were
just standing here a minute ago and a goat came running out
of the bushes doin' about a hundred miles an hour and
jumped headfirst into this hole here!"
And the old farmer said " Why that's impossible, I had him
chained to an old Ford transmission! "
KILMARNOCK CRUISE-IN
MAY 10
Attendance was expected to be low for the May 10th
Mother’s Day Cruise-In at Kilmarnock, however
with a nice day, we had 33 vehicles. All were from
the lower “Neck” and Southside, with a few from out
of town.
In the nice mix of cars, we had a Dodge Challenger,
a Masserati and a neat Viper Coupe that we had not
seen before.
Of the 33 vehicles present, 11 were Club members.
We had three requests for membership forms. One
of these was because of the new Club badge. When
told he had to be a Club member to buy one, he
said he would join. We will have to see where that
goes.
The winners were: 50-50, Larry Taylor of Kilmarnock;
four wheel balancing and rotation from Big L
Tire, Gerry Hice of Heathsville; large pizza from
Pizza Hut, Mac McDowell of Topping; buffet meals
from KFC, Liz Lester of Deltaville and Jim Davis of
White Stone; two Dollar Meal tickets from
McDonalds, Margaret Horsman of Heathsville and
items. The Northern Neck region AACA was represented
New Hagerty Usage and Mileage Program
Vehicles insured in our program must be used on a limited basis consistent with the operation of something valuable, such as club functions,
exhibitions, organized meets, tours and limited pleasure driving. Hagerty has no strict mileage limitation for collector vehicles used in this
manner. We want customers to feel comfortable driving their collector cars on a limited basis without watching the odometer. Limited use does
NOT mean that vehicles will be used for normal or backup daily transportation, such as driving to and from work, or school, or for daily errands.
We will not insure vehicles used for high-speed racing, or high-speed rallying, or for the commercial transportation of goods and passengers
(such as rentals, commercial hauling, etc.).
