AUTHORS
Eric Gaalaas (page 6) received Bachelor’s and
Master’s degrees in EE from Cornell University
in 1993 and 1994, and has 12 years experience
as an IC design engineer, mostly on audio
products. He is an inventor, with several patents
related to audio DACs, sample-rate conversion,
and Class D amplifiers, and an author of related
publications. From 1999 to 2006, he worked in
the Digital Audio group of Analog Devices in
Wilmington, MA, and recently moved to the
iCoupler Components group.
Rick Gentile (page 17), who joined ADI
in 2000 as a senior DSP applications
engineer, currently leads the Blackf in
Processor Applications group. Additionally,
he is co-author of Embedded Media Processing
(Newnes 2005). Before joining ADI, Rick
was a member of the technical staff at MIT
Lincoln Laboratory, where he designed
several signal processors used in a wide
range of radar sensors. He received a BS
from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master of
Science degree from Northeastern University—both in electrical
and computer engineering.
David Katz (page 17) joined ADI in 2001. He
is a senior applications engineer responsible
for new product development on Blackfin
processors. He has published internationally
dozens of embedded processing articles, and
he has presented several conference papers
in the field. Additionally, he is co-author of
Embedded Media Processing (Newnes 2005).
Previously, he worked at Motorola, Inc. as a
senior design engineer in cable modem and
factory automation groups. David holds both a BS and an MEng
in electrical engineering from Cornell University.
Tom Lukasiak (page 17) has been a DSP
applications engineer at Analog Devices since
2000. He is currently focusing on Blackfin
processor products. Tom earned his ScB
(2000) and ScM (2002) degrees in electrical
engineering from Brown University.
Wayne Meyer (page 17) is the product
marketing manager for Blackfin processors.
He has over 15 years of experience in the
semiconductor industry working for both
Analog Devices and Motorola (Freescale)
Semiconductor. Previous positions include
product engineering and product manager
roles for 8-bit and 16-bit microcontrollers and
business development manager for 24-bit DSP
and 32-bit RISC microprocessors. Wayne
holds a BSEE degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas,
TX, and an MBA from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX.
Alan Moloney (page 13) is an applications
engineer in the Power Systems Management
group based in Limerick, Ireland. The PSM
group provides voltage supervision, powersupply
sequencing, and hot-swap controller
solutions. Alan graduated from the National
University of Ireland Galway in 2001 with
a BE in electronic engineering.
