noted, will no longer be valid. 

Mattoon Area Family YMCA reserves the right to change, add or remove from either the Live or Silent 

Auctions any item it deems appropriate even though the item may have been advertised, listed in the 

auction printed catalog or verbally indicated as being for auction. 

Donors and/or purchasers of auction items or services should consult their own tax advisor(s) 

regarding any questions concerning the possibility of tax deductibility.

Live Auction Rules 

1. The live auction begins at 7 p.m. and will continue without interruptions until all items 

have been auctioned. Doors will open at 5 p.m., to give you an opportunity to view the 

items prior to bidding. 

2. To bid in the live auction, the bidder must raise his/her number high and attract the 

attention of the auctioneer. This must be repeated each time you initiate or increase the 

bid. Each bid legally obligates the bidder to pay the bid price in full if his/her bid is 

deemed the high bid by the auctioneer. The auction will be fast-paced and the bids 

must be made quickly. 

3. Payment by the successful bidder must be made by the end of the evening. 

4. When an item has not been displayed, the purchaser will receive a signed “Bearer 

Certificate” for the promised gift. 

5. Use only the Bid Card assigned to you to bid. Your number is your identification. 

6. We accept Visa and MasterCard. 

Champagne will be served to the tables who make 

overbids in the live auction. 

An overbid is any bid that goes over 

the listed retail value.

Silent Auction Rules 

1. Bid number must be entered on the official bid sheets adjacent to each item on the 

Silent Auction Tables. 

2. Bid sheets MUST NOT be removed from the tables. 

3. The Silent Auction Tables will be open for bidding at 5 p.m. Tables will close at the times 

posted in the catalog and will be announced during the evening. The closing bid circled 

by the YMCA May Merriment Benefit official constitutes the winning bid. HIS/HER
