1947 Thor Heyerdahl records his journey across the Pacific with his Kon-Tiki using
a ROBOT I camera.
1953 Using the ROBOT JUNIOR secret camera, the dramatic events of the East Berlin
uprising from 17 th June are recorded.
1955 TRAFFIPAX product sector founded – the first police cars are equipped
with ROBOT technology and ROBOT becomes one of the pioneers of
camera-based traffic monitoring.
1960s ROBOT continues to invest in technical and scientific photography:
ballistic cameras, oscilloscope camera adapters, reprophoto graphy, optical
surveillance.
1968 Olympic Games in Mexico: the ROBOT ROYAL takes the pictures of Bob
Beamon’s legendary long-jump record.
1970s ROBOT develops the most advanced equipment for surveillance and for
photography for use in police data records.
Traffic surveillance becomes an increasingly important area: MESTA,
TRAFFIPHOT housings, TRAFFIPAX IV and identification photos.
1980s The reliable ROBOT MotorRecorder is used in an extremely wide range of traffic
surveillance applications: anti-tailgating photography, TraffiPhot II red light cameras,
tRaffipaX V.
1991 ROBOT acquires MULTANOVA AG.
1996 As the world’s first company in the area of transport safety technology,
ROBOT introduces the quality management system as per DIN
en iSO 9001-2000.
1999 ROBOT becomes a subsidiary of JENOPTIK AG, in the business area Jenoptik Laser,
Optics, Systems (LOS).
Opening of the TRAFFIPAX INC., Maryland/USA branch.
2001 Opening of TRAFFIPAX do Brazil, São Paulo branch.
2002 New headquarters of ROBOT Visual Systems GmbH in Monheim am Rhein.

It is a sunny Monday afternoon. Little Liv is waiting at
the corner of the high street for her mother to pick
her up from school. All the other children have already
been picked up, and Liv is worried.
She finally sees her mother on the other side of the
road. Happily, she runs across the street. Car tyres
screech. From nowhere, an enormous car bonnet
appears on the street and inexorably bears down on
Liv. The child is frozen with terror. Then the car stops.
Just in time.
Because, thanks to the new traffic enforcement
system, it was travelling at an appropriate speed.

Jenoptik Traffic Solutions offers the entire process
chain from a single source: legal advice, technical
consultancy, coordination of civil works, delivery of
stationary and mobile systems for red light monitoring
and speed measurement as well as the implementation
and operation of the entire back offices with the most
up-to-date software.
Fadi Masaad is concentrating on his monitor. Today
things are particularly hectic. Here, in the vast back
office with hundreds of modern workstations, data
from hundreds of traffic monitoring systems from the
region around Jeddah, Mecca and Medina are coming
together. The focus of the project is on increasing
traffic safety by using speed and red light monitoring
systems.
After one year of traffic monitoring, at the end of
2011 all three cities have witnessed a drop in accident
figures, traffic fatalities and injuries. Fadi Masaad is
proud that he and his team have played an active part
in achieving this goal.

Point-to-point systems (P2P) are only one example of

Paul smiles; he saw the speed measurement system on
the motorway early enough and took his foot off the
gas pedal. Now he can ignore the speed limit of the
traffic management system again and accelerate into
the tunnel. A few kilometers after the tunnel he sees a
second measurement system. Once again he reduces
his speed and thinks that he hasn‘t been caught. What
Paul doesn‘t know is that the intelligent system has
recorded his excessive speed anyway.
A few days later he receives a penalty notice. That‘s
when he remembers the press report about the new
method of determining average speeds. In future he
will drive more carefully and not just brake abruptly.
After all, it does bring an added bonus in addition to
increased traffic safety: improved traffic flows, resulting
in fewer traffic jams.

In the province of Ontario in Canada, Jenoptik Traffic
Solutions is supporting the operation of red light
monitoring at intersections in the context of Traffic Service
Provision: from management of measurement locations
to processing of violations with qualitatively exceptional,
court proof evidence. The result: four years following the
start of the project, serious accidents resulting from red
light violations have fallen by 60 percent.
Scalable services
With Traffic Service Provision, Jenoptik Traffic Solutions
combines all services and processes of comprehensive
traffic monitoring without investment by the client
or additional personnel requirements. Traffic Service
Provision is tailor-made. The spectrum ranges from
the operation of complete traffic law enforcement

UN Decade of Action for Road Safety
As the leading traffic safety company, we also have
an obligation to the common good. We are therefore
supporting the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety
program which is organizing global campaigns from 2011
to 2020. According to information from the WHO, targeted
traffic safety projects can save up to five million lives and
reduce the number of road traffic injuries by approximately
50 million by 2020.
n State interventions are necessary to monitor compliance
with road traffic rules.
