FRESHMAN PHENOM

When the term
competitor comes to mind,
you may think of Michael
Jordan in the final seconds of
game seven of the NBA
Finals, you may recall Tim
Tebow fighting for the goal
line on fourth down, or you
may reminisce about Tiger
Woods on Sunday at the
Masters. You might want to
add Luiz Jacintho to that
list.
Jacintho is the
newest addition to the
Pfeiffer Men’s Golf squad and
he has made quite an
impression so far. In three
tournaments this year the
Bauro, Brazil product has
finished in ties for first and
fourth and most recently
scored a first place finish,
winning the Falcon Cup
Invitational. In those
tournaments his average
round has been a 72.
“Luiz has been a
great addition to this team
and university,” Coach Greg
Flesher said. “He is one of
the most competitive players
I’ve ever seen.”
Jacintho admits his
experience is a key to his
early success at Pfeiffer. He
has played many
tournaments back home in

Brazil, many of which he
won.
“I love playing golf
and learning here at Pfeiffer
because it is small and
everyone knows each other,”
Jacintho said.
“If I could describe
Luiz in one word I would say
he is a competitor,”
sophomore golfer Jonathan
Miles said. “He just adds a
Brazilian flair that is
irreplaceable.”
The team has one
more fall tournament before
taking a break until spring.
They will be traveling to
Petersburg, Virginia and

Jacintho is looking forward to
another chance at winning.
“The mental aspect of
my game is as high as ever
and it’s all about having a
positive attitude,” Jacintho
said.
