Water Swimming has<br />
become quite popular<br />
around the world.<br />
The sport of Open Water Swimming will be included for the first time in the <strong>Special</strong><br />
<strong>Olympics</strong> World Summer Games ATHENS 2011 as a demonstration sport. It will take<br />
place at the Sailing Academy, at Schinias and the distance for the event is set at 1.5km<br />
within a rectangular course close to the shoreline. The start and finish of the event will<br />
be on the beach a few meters from the water’s edge.<br />
The divisioning will take place the first day of the Aquatics Competition (June 26, 2011)<br />
at the finals of 800m freestyle. Athletes will be divisioned based on their gender, age,<br />
and ability.
