Subject:- Deployment of Indian Police Officers with UN Mission in Sudan.
UNDPKO through PMI to the UN has intimated the selection of the following 12
Indian Police officers for deployment with UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) for a period of
one year (.) Recommended date for deployment in the Mission area is 4 th March’2009.

2. Service condition during the above deployment as laid down by PMI to the UN
are as under: -
Mission Subsistence Allowance (MSA)
MSA is the daily allowance payable for living expenses incurred by staff members in
the field in connection with temporary assignment.
Sudan
-MSA rate first 30 days $ 188 per day.
-MSA rate after 30 days $136 per day.
MSA will be amended depending on the type of accommodation
Staff housed in accommodation provided by the UN will be charged according to the
type of accommodation occupied.
Living Accommodation: -UN Police officers will be briefed on accommodation
arrangements upon arrival in the mission area (.) Upon arrival, they are likely to stay
at a local hotel while undergoing briefings on their duties in the field (.) UNMIS
makes hotel booking for the induction period (.) However, police officers are allowed
to make other accommodation arrangements, which have to be informed to the
mission (.) Thereafter police officers based in Khartoum will be required to make
their own arrangements for accommodation (.) Police Officers deploying to South

Sudan will be briefed on accommodation and other support arrangement upon
arrival in the mission area. They may be subjected to hardship conditions while on
duty, particularly during period of tension (.)

Cash- Police Officer should bring sufficient cash (USD) to sustain one week in
Khartoum ( US $ 100 per day) (.)
Vaccination Certificate: - Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory and proof of
immunization must be produced at entry for all travelers (.)
Malaria :-malaria prophylaxis is required (.) Please see the guidelines for civilian
police officers on assignment with UNMIS and the travel authorization.
Visa:-obtaining a visa for Sudan is mandatory.
Driving license -These officer must have at least two years recent driving experience
and must be in possession of valid driving license. The officers are subject to inmission
assessment in driving skills.
Medical Examination: Medical Examination to be completed within three months of
deployment for all UN police officers.
3. The UN only pays subsistence allowance during the period of deployment within
UN Mission area. The pay and allowances are to be paid by the lending authority. The
officers may also be allowed to retain Government accommodation/telephone etc., if
any held by them.
4. It must be ensured that the above police officers have rendered 08 years of
police service including training period and are clear from vigilance angle. It may also
be ensured that the police officer who has been to any UN Mission earlier and also
figures in the appendix, should have completed the 3 years cooling off period after
return from the earlier mission. If it is found later on that the officer has concealed any
facts in this regard, he will liable to be repatriated from the UN Mission at his own cost
and will also be liable to disciplinary proceedings.
5. It is requested that above officers may please be relieved with the direction to
report at National UN CIVPOL CENTRE, ITBP, Tigri camp New Delhi by 31.01.2009
provided they are clear from vigilance angle (.)

Light vehicle to report Commandant, National CIVPOL Centre, Tigri camp, New
Delhi for completing pre departure formalities of above officers for their
deployment with UN Mission in Sudan.
iv) SO (IT), MHA - With the request to upload the above communication in MHA
website please.
