On this weekend's episode of The Local Show, we'll have an in-studio with Aby Wolf
who has been working with Grant Cutler on a new album called Wolf Lords. Andrea
Swensson also interviewed rising blues singer Jose James, a Minneapolis-native who has
signed to Blue Note Records in New York City. And David and Andrea will also share a
piece they produced on Red House Records, the country's longest-running folk and roots
label based out of St. Paul. Their 30th anniversary celebration will be held on March 1.
Plus, debuts from the likes of Cloud Cult, The 4onthefloor, Gospel Gossip and
Crankshaft and The Gear Grinders. We'll also continue our artist of the month feature.
All during February, we'll be highlighting the music of Low.
February 10, 2013 with Southwire and Kill The Vultures
Soundbite Series with Kill The Vultures, and we'll air highlights from that performance
and interview. Also, a Local Show first: we're airing a 22 minute song. But it's not just
any 22 minute song -- it's the second side of the new Retribution Gospel Choir album
featuring Nels Cline. Plus, debuts from the likes of Prince, Enemy Planes, OAKS, Alison
Rae and Hobo Nephews Of Uncle Frank. And this week begins our next artist of the
month feature. All during February, we'll be highlighting the music of Low.
February 3, 2013 – Best Of The Current’s Birthday Parties
On this weekend's episode of The Local Show, we're re-airing our two-night birthday
show! But this isn't your run-of-the-mill re-air. We're choosing the best moments of the
celebration alongside over a dozen interviews with audience members, special guests,
staff members and bands on the bill. Massive thanks are in order to the entire staff of
First Avenue as well as all the performers throughout the two-night bash. And big ups to
MPR engineers Michael DeMark and Sam Keenan for sorting through hours of audio to
make this a very special episode. We'll be back to normal next week with an in-studio
from rising Duluth band Southwire, as well as a Kill The Vultures session courtesy of
McNally Smith. AND, we'll be spinning an entire side of the new Retribution Gospel
Choir album. Get ready for 20 minutes of rock.
