ÊÊNamed the 2007 Rays Minor League Pitcher<br />

of the Year by the team’s Baseball Operations<br />

department while going a <strong>com</strong>bined 10-3 with<br />

a 2.50 ERA (158.1-IP, 128-H, 44-ER, 51-BB, 169-<br />

SO) in 27 starts at Class-A Vero Beach and<br />

Montgomery…was promoted on June 19.<br />

ÊÊHis 169 SO were 2nd in the organization and<br />

7th overall in the minor leagues.<br />

ÊÊHurled his second career no-hitter on May 4 at<br />

Jupiter (Marlins), striking out 6 in the 7-inning<br />

victory…owns 2 of the 9 <strong>com</strong>plete-game no-hitters<br />

in the history of the organization.<br />

ÊÊDid not lose until his 21st start, July 28 vs.<br />

Birmingham (White Sox)…started the first<br />

game of each playoff round for the Biscuits en<br />

route to the SL championship.<br />

ÊÊFollowing the season, was named the No. 4<br />

prospect in the org. and the No. 17 prospect<br />

in the game by BA…selected to BA’s All-Minor<br />

League Team (second team)…named a Florida<br />

State League midseason All-Star.<br />

ÊÊIn 2006, finished 2nd in the Midwest League<br />

and the Rays system with 165 strikeouts while<br />

pitching for Class-A Southwest Michigan…<br />

crafted a 1.00 ERA (54-IP, 6-ER) over his first 10<br />

starts, including a 0.67 ERA in April.<br />

ÊÊTossed a <strong>com</strong>plete-game, 7-inning no-hitter on<br />

Aug 31 against Beloit (Twins), but still lost as a<br />

pair of errors (including one of his own) allowed<br />

a run to score in a 1-0 game.<br />

ÊÊRanked the No. 7 prospect in the organization<br />

and No. 8 prospect from the MWL by BA.<br />

ÊÊNamed Short-A Hudson Valley’s Pitcher of the<br />

Year in 2005…led the Renegades staff with<br />

a 2.72 ERA, 7th best in the New York-Penn<br />

League and 2nd lowest among Rays minor<br />

leaguers…led the league with 97 strikeouts.<br />

ÊÊSelected as a NYPL All-Star…tabbed the 6thbest<br />

Rays prospect and the 3rd-best prospect<br />

in the NYPL by Baseball America.<br />

ÊÊMade his pro debut with Rookie-level Princeton<br />

in 2004 and led the team in starts and innings<br />

pitched.<br />

ÊÊHis second cousin is former Cubs catcher and<br />

two-time All-Star Jody Davis (1981-88 Cubs;<br />

1988-90 Braves).<br />

ÊÊIn his senior season at Lake Wales (Fla.) High<br />

School, went 7-3 with a 0.79 ERA in 13 games…<br />

allowed 47 hits, 14 walks and struck out 114<br />

batters in 71 innings…tendinitis in his shoulder<br />

forced him to DH and play 1B play for<br />

Lake Wales his junior season…pitched in the<br />

playoffs.<br />

ÊÊWas headed to the University of Florida before<br />

signing with the Rays…he remains an avid fan<br />

of Gators football.<br />

ÊÊIs one of nine Florida-born players to make his<br />

major league debut for the Rays, joining Kenny<br />

Kelly (2000), Bobby Seay (2001), Lance Carter<br />

(2003), Doug Waechter (2003), John Webb<br />

(2004), Shawn Riggans (2006), Elijah Dukes<br />
