Ohio, and attended Perrysburg High School, the<br />
alma mater of Tigers Manager Jim Leyland...<br />
his high school team played its home games at<br />
Jim Leyland Field...Burke and Leyland donated<br />
money to build a new field that is currently under<br />
construction.<br />
ÊÊGraduated magna cum laude from Bowling<br />
Green State University with a degree in economics...was<br />
a First Team Academic All-<br />
American as a senior.<br />
ÊÊWrote the foreword for the 2010 book Financial<br />
Planning for Your First Job, written by his high<br />
school classmate Matthew Brandeburg.<br />
ÊÊBurke is a movie buff and aspiring screenwriter<br />
and especially enjoys <strong>com</strong>edies...when<br />
the Marlins were in Los Angeles to play the<br />
Dodgers, he crossed paths with Will Ferrell’s<br />
agent, Martin Lesak.<br />

ÊÊSpent the majority of the season with the<br />
Marlins after opening the season in Triple-A<br />
New Orleans...was recalled on May 7 and spent<br />
the remainder of the season in the majors,<br />
making 50 relief apps and posting a 4.10 ERA<br />
(63.2-IP, 29-ER).<br />
ÊÊLed the Marlins in relief innings (63.2) from the<br />
date of his recall (May 7) through season’s end.<br />
ÊÊAllowed only 1 HR in 63.2 innings, a solo shot<br />
by Albert Pujols on Aug 4 vs. STL...only four<br />
qualifying NL relievers allowed a home run less<br />
frequently...his 74.2 groundball pct. ranked 6th<br />

ÊÊWent 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA (16-IP, 4-ER) over<br />
his first 16 apps, through June 12...after that<br />
went 1-3 with a 4.72 ERA (47.2-IP, 25-ER) in 34<br />
games.<br />
ÊÊOn May 16 at NYM pitched a scoreless 10th inning<br />
and drove in the game-winning run with<br />
an 11th-inning single to earn the victory...it was<br />
the second time in Marlins history a reliever<br />
earned the win and drove in the game-winning<br />
run with a base hit (Richie Lewis, Aug 26,<br />
1993 vs. HOU).<br />
ÊÊRecorded 6 strikeouts over 3.2 innings on<br />
Aug 4 vs. STL...this tied for 2nd-most strikeouts<br />
by a reliever in Marlins history...tossed 4 innings<br />
of scoreless relief on Sep 1 at NYM.<br />
ÊÊMade 11 apps for New Orleans...suffered the<br />
loss on April 23 at Albuquerque (Dodgers) after<br />
yielding 9 runs (7-ER) on 8 hits in 1 inning...otherwise<br />
had a 2.63 ERA (13.2-IP, 4-ER).<br />

ÊÊIn 2010 broke camp with the Marlins...in two<br />
major league stints, <strong>com</strong>piled a 3.99 ERA (67.2-<br />
IP, 30-ER) over a career-high 53 relief apps...optioned<br />
to New Orleans on May 27 after posting<br />
an 0-5 record and 6.43 ERA (21-IP, 15-ER) in 15<br />
games for the Marlins.<br />
ÊÊWas recalled by Florida on July 7 and went 2-0<br />
with a 2.89 ERA (46.2-IP, 15-ER) in 38 apps to<br />
finish the season.
