Freddie Benavides - Field Coordinator<br />
Freddie Benavides enters his 11th season in the Reds’ minor league system, his second as<br />
field coordinator. Prior to 2008, he spent 7 seasons as infield coordinator and also filled in<br />
as manager for the rookie league Billings club in 2007. In 2000, before he was named infield<br />
coordinator, Benavides managed Class A Dayton in its inaugural season and led the Dragons<br />
to a Midwest League playoff spot with a 70-67 mark. Benavides began his managerial career<br />
in 1999 at Class A Clinton, where he went 68-69 overall but won the Midwest League’s<br />
Western Division the first half of the season with a 41-27 record. In 2004 Freddie managed<br />
the Reds’ Gulf Coast League affiliate in Sarasota. In 2003 he served as a coach with the<br />
Major League club from August 5 through the remainder of the season. Originally selected<br />
by Cincinnati in the second round of the June 1987 draft, the former infielder went on play<br />
4 Major League seasons with the Reds, Rockies and Expos. Benavides, 42, resides in Laredo, Texas.<br />
Bill Doran - Assistant Field Coordinator of Instruction<br />
Bill Doran returns in 2009 as the assistant field coordinator of Instruction. Last season he<br />
served as the infield/baserunning coordinator. During the 2006 and 2007 seasons he was<br />
manager Buddy Bell’s bench coach with the Kansas City Royals. After a brief stint as the<br />
hitting coach at Class A Tampa (Yankees), Doran joined the Royals’ Major League staff<br />
in June 2005 as first base coach/infielders coach. From 1995-2001, the former second<br />
baseman spent time in the Reds organization working as a minor league instructor (1995-<br />
99), minor league field coordinator (1999), director of player development (1999-2000)<br />
and special assistant to the general manager (2000). He served as the Reds’ first base<br />
coach during the 2001 season. Doran hit .266 during his 12-year big league career with the<br />
Astros (1982-1990), Reds (1990-92) and Brewers (1993) and was a member of the Reds’<br />
1990 World Series championship team. In 1991 he was selected as the first recipient of the Good Guy Award by the<br />
local chapter of the BBWAA. Bill is a graduate of Cincinnati’s Mt. Healthy High School and played baseball at Miami<br />
Univeristy in Oxford. He resides in Cincinnati.<br />
Mack Jenkins - Pitching Coordinator<br />
Mack Jenkins enters his 20th season in the Reds organization and his fourth season as<br />
pitching coordinator. Before he was named to his current position, Jenkins spent 16 seasons<br />
as a pitching coach at Rookie Billings (1990-91), Class A Cedar Rapids (1992), Class A<br />
Charleston (1993-95), Class AA Chattanooga (1996-2001) and Class AAA Louisville (2002-<br />
05). Jenkins, who was signed by Cincinnati as a non-drafted free agent in 1986, pitched in<br />
the Reds’ system until 1988. Mack, 43, resides in Sarasota, Florida.<br />

Coordinators<br />
Ronnie Ortegon - Hitting Coordinator<br />
Ronnie Ortegon begins his third season with the Reds organization. He came to the Reds<br />
following a 2-year stint as a coach for the Rangers’ Double-A affiliate in Frisco (2005-06).<br />
Prior to his role with the Texas, Ortegon served 3 seasons with the Philadelphia organization.<br />
He made his professional coaching debut in 2002 as manager of Batavia of the New York-<br />
Penn League. Ortegon was a coach for Double-A Reading in 2003 and for the Rookie GCL<br />
Phillies in 2004. He was the head baseball coach at Forney (TX) High School for 8 years.<br />
In 1989 and 1990 Ronnie played professionally as an infielder in the Angels organization.<br />
Ortegon, 43, resides in Dallas, Texas.<br />
Darren Bragg - Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator<br />
Darren Bragg begins his first season as outfield/baserunning coordinator. He served the<br />
previous 2 seasons as the hitting coach at Class A Dayton. A Connecticut native, Bragg<br />
enjoyed a 14-year playing career that included parts of 11 seasons in the Major Leagues<br />
with Seattle (1994-96), Boston (1996-98), St. Louis (1999), Colorado (2000), New York<br />
Mets (2001), New York Yankees (2001), Atlanta (2003), San Diego (2004) and Cincinnati<br />
(2004). He attended Georgia Tech and in 2002 was inducted into that university’s hall of<br />
fame. In 1989 he set an NCAA record with 73 walks and in both 1990 and 1991 earned<br />
All-ACC honors. He also played for Team USA in the 1990 Goodwill Games. Darren, 39,<br />
resides in Southbury, Connecticut.
