At 88-56 the Bats set a franchise record for wins in a season and clinched their fourth International League West
Division title. It marked the club’s third consecutive winning season.
Louisville’s 88 regular season wins ranked T2nd in all of the minor leagues (August 88-50, Myrtle Beach 89-51).
The ‘08 Bats became the first team in franchise history to win 40 games both at home (44-28) and on the road (44-28).
Louisville’s season ended when they fell in the first round of the IL playoffs to eventual champion Durham.
Rick Sweet was named International League Manager of the Year and passed former Louisville skipper Dave
Miley (296-245) as the club’s all-time winningest manager (303-272). Sweet and C Ryan Hanigan were named to the
post-season IL All-Star team. On July 16, Louisville’s Slugger Field hosted the Triple-A All-Star Game, with Hanigan
and RHP Jon Adkins representing the Bats.
1B Kevin Barker and Adkins shared the 2008 Mary E. Barney Award as the team’s co-Most Valuable Players.
Barker led the Bats with 21 HR, 77 RBI and 73 runs, while Adkins led the league with 30 saves.
LHP Adam Pettyjohn paced the team with 15 victories, tying the club’s all-time single-season mark. For the ninth
straight season, Louisville led the International League in attendance. The Bats averaged 9,152 fans per game at
Slugger Field (631,457).
