Understanding The Letus35 Ultimate
This section provides information about the Letus35 Ultimate, the packing list,
its main features, and the technology used.
A. Package Contents:
» Letus35
adapter
Ultimate 35mm DOF
» One generic connection ring of the
size 72mm, 77mm, or 82mm. The
user has the option to choose a
generic camera connection ring or
a specialized camera connection
ring that is tailored for a specific
camera at no additional cost.
» One lens mount of choice including:
PL or OCT19 cinema lens
mounts or various SLR lens mounst (Nikon, Canon FD, Canon EF, Pentax-
K, Minolta-MD, Zeiss Contax, Olympus-OM, Leica-R, M42 Screw Mount)
» Allen wrenches in the sizes of 3/32 and 5/32
» Carrying case
» Version 2 front support bracket
» D-tap to DC 2.1mm connector for 12V connection to standard D-tap
connection that is available on many cameras
» This manual
B. Features:
» Half stop light loss
» IOC prism system to correct the image so it is right side up
» Smart Spinning Ground Glass with maximum effective diffusion level
(real glass, not plastic for the best film look)
» LED display of speed selection
» Flash memory to memorize the last speed selection
» Auto selection between internal 3V (2 AA batteries) and external 12V
(D-tap connection)
» Low battery indicator
1.Green means battery is still good to use
2.Flashing yellow means battery has 10 more minutes of runtime
» Film plane line and tape hook
» Lens-style real-time SLR back focus adjustment with lock down for easy
back focus adjustment that does not require any tool
Letus35 User Guide
2

II.
» Ability to stop down the lens all the way without seeing grains (see technology
section below)
» Ability to shoot with shutter speed faster than 1/1000 (see technology
section below)
» Ability to change Ground Glass
» Ability to align frame when the camera’s image sensor is not centered:
1. Skewed Y frames to larger size so Y frames disappear before X frames
2. Uses 3 perpendicular screws to adjust the position of the base for both
Condenser and Ground Glass.
C. Technology:
» Motor-off-center spinning technology for minimal foot print (patent
pending)
» Ground Glass center post on ball bearings for minimal foot print. Eliminates
wobbling effect when the motor is spinning. This has been the big
drawback for spinning adapters to date. Without the wobbling, the user
can shoot with shutter speed faster than 1/1000, stop the lens all the
way down without seeing the grain of the GG and it yields a razor sharp
image (patent pending)
» X-Y off center adjustment (patent pending)
» Real-time, tool-less, lens-style SLR back focus adjustment with lock down
(patent pending)
» IOC prism technology for right side up image orientation
Installation and Setup
A. Connecting the Letus35 Ultimate To The Camera:
1. Turn OFF the Letus35 Ultimate
2. Loosen the 3 screws on the connection
ring so the ring can spin freely within its
place. (You can choose to completely remove
the ring from the Letus35 Ultimate
and screw only the ring to the camera for
easy handling, if you do, please go to step
4 below)
3. Screw the connection ring to the camera filter thread (you must choose
the correct connection ring when ordering your Letus35 Ultimate)
4. Turn on the camera
5. Align the Letus35 Ultimate so that all the frame edges are parallel to
the LCD edges
6.
Tighten the three screws on the connecting ring
Letus35 User Guide
3

B. Aligning The Frame in case of image sensor offset:
1. Open the front tube of the Letus35 Ultimate
by removing the 4 screws and carefully
lift the tube off its place.
2. Loosen the three screws
3. Move the base left/right (opposite direction
with the offset) to make sure the frame
is centered (don’t worry about Y direction
because of the skewed Y frame size; the
Y frames will disappear way before the X
frames)
4. When it is centered, tighten the three
screws
5. Put the tube back on
C. Focusing To The Ground Glass:
1. Make sure your Letus35 Ultimate is turned
OFF and there is no SLR/cinema lens attached
to it
2. Turn ON your camera
3. Point the camera to the edge of the bright
light (not right into the bright light, just at
the edge of the bright light, at this point,
it’s easiest to see the grains on the ground
glass)
4. Have the camera set for Manual Focus. Dial
the focus ring until you get the crisp view
of the grains on the ground glass. You also
can briefly have your camera switched to
Auto Focus and once you get the grains
patterns crisp, turn it back to manual
focus
5. Gaff tape the ring at that point
D. Attaching The Lens Mount And Lens :
1. Using the Allen Wrench Tool included with
your package, loosen the three (3) screws
located at the very front of your adapter
2. Insert the lens mount into the front tube
of the unit. Make sure to seat the mount
flush against the tube
Letus35 User Guide
4

3.
4.
Tighten the three (3) set screws to firmly
lock the Lens Mount in place
Now, attach the appropriate lens to your
lens mount
E. SLR/cinema lens Back Focus Adjustment:
1. Once you have achieved the focus of the
ground glass, attach the lens mount to the
front of your Letus35 Ultimate, tighten the
three screws, and attach your SLR/cinema
lens.
2. Dial the lens to ∞ (infinity)
3. Point the camera with the Letus35 Ultimate
attached to some objects very far
away. If those objects are not in focus loosen the 2 little thumbscrews
on the back focus ring and dial the ring until you get the infinity focus.
4. Dial the focus of your lens to some short distance (that has the marked
number on the focus ring, e.g. 3ft or 1.5m, etc). Hook a tape measure to
the Letus35 Ultimate at the film plane hook and set something to that
distance that you set the lens to.
5. If you also achieve focus on this object, your SLR back focus is good.
If not, repeat steps 3 and 4 until you do get both focus. If you cannot
achieve it, your lens’ barrel marking maybe off and may need to be serviced
F. Power Supply for The Letus35 Ultimate:
» The Letus35 Ultimate can handle both 3V (2
AA batteries) or you can use the supplied
D-tap to DC 2.1mm connector to get power
to the Letus35 Ultimate via D-tap connection
from your camera (if available).
G. Turn The Letus35 Ultimate ON/OFF:
» To turn the Letus35 Ultimate ON/OFF, press the ON/OFF button located
right below the red LED display.
Letus35 User Guide
5

III.
H. Adjusting the Motor Speed:
» You can change the speed at which the
ground glass is rotating by pressing the UP or
DOWN buttons. The speed can be set from 00
to 99, where 00 is the speed that the ground
glass barely rotating and 99 is the full speed
of the motor. When you turn the Letus35 Ultimate
OFF, the flash memory inside the MCU will remember its value so
that when you turn it back on, it will be at the same speed you last used.
I. 12V Supply Indicator Light:
» When you have a 12V supply connected to
the Letus35 Ultimate, this light will be on.
J. 3V Supply (2 AA batteries):
» You can also use 2 readily available AA
batteries for the Letus35 Ultimate. The
batteries normally run for about 6 hours.
K. Low Battery Indicator Light:
» If the 3V batteries are running out of power, the light will switch from
green to yellow and the motor will run for 10 more minutes. This
is firmware controlled to insure constant RPM of the ground glass.
Changing The Ground Glass:
The ground glass of the Letus35 Ultimate is user
changeable. You can change it by:
1. Open the front tube of the Letus35 Ultimate
by removing the 4 screws and carefully
lift the tube off its place
2. Unscrew the three screws and lift the
ground glass base up
3. Remove the little nut that hold the ground
glass post in place
4. Gently pull the ground glass up and replace
with the new one
Letus35 User Guide
6

IV.
5. Put the nut back using your finger and do not over tighten it
6. Use the old marks of the 3 screws to ensure the frame is centered, tighten
the three screws
7. Put the tube back
Cleaning The System:
We try our best to ship each unit free of dust in the optical path. However,
the Magic of Dust Particles is always surprising. In which case, you
may need to clean the optical path as follows:
1. If the dust is moving when the ground
glass is rotating, it’s on the ground glass,
you only need to clean the ground glass
(only perform up to step 3)
2. Open the front tube of the Letus35 Ultimate
by removing the 4 screws and carefully
lift the tube off its place
3. Clean the ground glass if you find the dust
there. Only go on to next step if the speck
is stationary when the ground glass is rotating,
if it is clean, put the tube back
4. Clean the top surface of the condenser
(the glass right below the ground glass). If
the speck goes away, you are done cleaning,
put the tube back
5. Unscrew the three screws and lift the
ground glass base up, clean the bottom
side of the condenser. If the spec goes
away, you are done cleaning, go to step 14
6. Clean the top surface of the prism
NOTE: Most of the dust will not matter beyond this point, unless it is
a stain. To remove the stain, please send it back to the factory to get
it done. The warranty WILL BE VOIDED if you perform step 7-13
7. Take off the 2 screws holding the housing
cap with the housing
8. Pull the black rubber wedge at the roof of
the prism out by a pair of pliers
9. Take the battery compartment off and
gently pull it off. Remember, the wires are
still attached to the battery compartment
V.
10. Lift the prism up by using the index finger
and the thumb
11. Clean the prism with lens cleaning solution
and put it back
12. Put the rubber wedge back
13. Put the housing cap back and tighten the
two screws. Do not over tighten them.
14. Put back the ground glass base. Use the
old marks of the 3 screws to ensure the
frame is centered, tighten the three screws
15. Put the tube back
