PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION SOCIETY :
Ours is an Engineering & Management institute which is run and managed by Progressive Education Society, a premier and
well known organization established in the year 1934 by dedicated teachers. The Society has recently celebrated its
platinum jubilee in the year 2008-2009. The society presently manages 54 different institutes imparting education from KG
level to PG level which includes the Professional Education in the field of Engineering, Management, Law, Pharmacy and
Biotechnology etc.
INSTITUTE :
Modern College of Engineering is established in the year 1999 and is affiliated to University of Pune. The college offers
four years degree courses in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering, E&TC Engineering, Electrical
Engineering & IT along with post graduate courses in MBA & MCA. This institute also runs PG courses in three disciplines
namely Mechanical Engineering (Heat Power Engg.) & Electrical Engineering (Control Systems) from academic year 2008-
09 and in Electronics & Telecommunication (Signal Processing), from 2010-2011.
Department of Mechanical Engineering:
Mechanical Engineering envisages the development, design, manufacturing and maintenance of machinery. With the
development of industrial changes the scope of Mechanical Engineering has been enlarged. There has been steady progress
from simple machines to more complicated and advanced ones. Experienced Teachers actively take part in the research &
Development.

Department of Electrical Engineering :
Well equipped laboratories, experienced Staff, all the teachers having post graduate qualifications, made the department a
leading one. Computer facilities offer to P.G. students lead to various simulation modeling problems of electrical machines,
power system & control system.
Department of Electronics & Telecommunication :
The laboratories being well equipped with latest equipments and accessories helped students to develop projects of research
level in the guidance of experienced teaching faculty. In addition the sponsored industrial projects are also of industry
standard finding its utility is applied engineering.

RULES & REGULATIONS
1. Authority for Admission: Chairman P.E. Society‟s, Director & Principal of Modern College of
Engineering shall be the authority for granting admissions to Post Graduate courses. However HOD
& P.G. Co-ordinator will be the coordinators for admission of candidates to P.G. Courses in
Engineering.
2. Intake is sanctioned by the competent authorities such as, AICTE, Govt. of Maharashtra, Pune
University and Director of Technical Educations, Maharashtra.
3. Eligibility :
(i) A candidate may be permitted to register himself for M.E. under Faculty of Engineering of University of
Pune, only if he/she holds a Bachelor‟s Degree in Engineering/Technology of University of Pune in the respective
branch or degree in respective branch from any other University, recognized as equivalent thereto by University of
Pune / U.G.C.

M.E. (Electrical) : B.E. (Electrical Engg), B.E. (Electrical & Power), B.E. (Electronics),
B.E.(E & TC), B.E.(Instrumentation)
ii) Candidates passing AMIE of Institution of Engineers, Calcutta are also eligible.
iii) Candidate should have a valid GATE Score. However if sufficient number of GATE qualified
candidate is not available, then Non-GATE candidates can be considered on the basis of his / her
performance in the Entrance Test conducted. Fresh candidates appeared for final examination of B.E. /
B.Tech can also appear for entrance test but final eligibility will be decided after the submission of B.E.
Passing Certificate / marks sheet.
iv) Merely fulfilling the eligibility criteria does not lead to finalization of admission

4. ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
Admissions will be effected in the respective branch according to merit list prepared on the basis of valid
GATE score. Vacant seats due to non-availability of GATE candidates will be offered to non-GATE
Candidates. A written test will be conducted for non GATE & sponsored candidates on 27-06-2011 from
11.00 am to 12.00 noon. The written test will be of 1 hrs duration carrying 50 marks. The portion for written
test will be of standard of B.E./ B. Tech. The students should bring with them calculator, IS Codes, writing
material etc. Seating arrangement will be displayed on the notice board on the day of entrance test.
5. Interview:
NOTE:
Interview will be conducted on Tuesday, 28/06/2011. A combined merit list based on maximum 100 marks
will be prepared as follows :
i) Marks of Entrance Test performance /
GATE Score Weight : Maximum 50 Marks
ii) Marks of the Interview : Maximum 30 Marks
iii) Marks of aggregate final year Exam of B.E. / B. Tech : Maximum 20 Marks
Total = Maximum 100 Marks
i) Marks in the Entrance test + Interview score and percentage of final year BE marks will be taken into
account to decide the merit of Non-GATE & Sponsored candidates
ii) For valid GATE Score candidates in respective or allied branches, Entrance Test is not required for
them to appear.
iii) There is no reservation of seats for backward classes from the quota of sponsored candidates.
6. M.E. (Mechanical / Electrical / E & TC) Course at this institute is a full time course.
7. Backward class candidates from Maharashtra State will be considered for the reservation seats. They will be
required to produce necessary certificates (refer vi,vii & viii of Sr.No.13 below) to that effect from appropriate
authority like Mamledar, or District Magistrate or Metropolitan Magistrate. Cast validity certificate should be
from competent authority.
8. The selected candidates have to pay total interim, University & Other fees by three separate demand drafts and
duly filled challan at the Bank counter of Janata Sahakari Bank, J.M.Road, Pune by D.D. of Rs. 67390/- &
Rs.910/-, as well as at Bank of Maharashtra, Modern College Branch, Pune, by D.D. of Rs. 3150/-. On the
back side of the DD‟s write down the name of the candidate & the branch for which the admission is to be
secured. The DD should be in favour of „The Principal, Modern College of Engineering, Pune 5‟, Payable at
Pune, Provisional admission will be confirmed only after the production of Challan endorsed by bank.
The timing of the banks are as follows :

[i] Bank of Maharashtra, Modern College Road Branch, Pune : 10.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
[ii] Janata Sahakari Bank,J.M.Road Branch,Pune : 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.
3.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
9. However the amount of total interim fees is subjected to revise based on the declaration of
Shiksha Shulk Samiti.

a) The students coming from Universities other than the University of Pune will be admitted provisionally.
The admission will be confirmed on producing the “Eligibility Certificate” from the Registrar, University
of Pune. Admission will be confirmed in all such cases only after receipt of „Transfer Certificate‟ from
the College / Institute previously attended by the candidate.
b) True copies of the certificates, duly certified by the Principal of the College last attended or by any
Gazzetted Officer need to be attached. The original certificate (refer 13 below) will have to be produced
at the time of admission and whenever called for the same at a later stage.
c) No application will be considered which is not properly filled in or is not received in time in the office.
d) If any false information is furnished by any candidate, either knowingly or unknowingly, admission, if
granted, will be cancelled and fees, if paid, will not be refunded.
e) If the candidate fails to report or remains absent for interview, on the prescribed date, his candidature will

e cancelled.
11) i) Students while studying if found indulging in anti-national activities, contrary to the provisions of acts
and laws enforced by Government, any activity contrary to the rules of discipline will be liable to be
expelled from the college without any notice.
ii) Any of the statement made and or data submitted in the application form, or any information supplied
by the candidate in connection with his/her admission, if later on, at any time, found to be false or
incorrect, his/her admission will be cancelled, fees will be forfeited and he/she may be expelled from the
college and prosecuted, if deemed necessary. An appeal against the order of expulsion, however, may be
referred to the Director of Technical Education whose decision in such cases will be final.
12) All candidates seeking admission to post graduate courses in Engineering are required to give an
undertaking and submit the same along with application form.(As per enclosure I in the application form )
