will be heard in France and
Germany May 14-29, 2004,
when the UW-L Jazz
Ensemble will perform a
series of concerts at UW-L’s
sister-universities in Caen,
France, and Frankfurt and
Oldenburg, Germany, and
La Crosse’s sister-city of
Epinal, France.
Chancellor Doug
Hastad and Provost Liz Hitch will host a
companion tour for UW-L alumni and
friends. The combined trip gives a chance
to explore culture and history of France
Golfing for a cause
More than 150 golfers helped to raise
around $15,000 when they participated in the
annual Chancellor’s Golf Classic at Cedar
Creek Country Club in Onalaska in August.
Funds raised from the golfers and sponsors go
to the UW-L Fund to support student
scholarships and programs on campus. Next

Phonathon finding success

Norman Kruger, ’46, to support the
work of faculty in health, physical
education and recreation.
Students love to contact alumni,
says Oganowski. In February, they
will be calling to seek support of the
annual “Twice is Nice” campaign.
Funds raised in spring will support
designated colleges, programs and
departments. “The last few years we
have seen a lot of success with the
campaign so we hope more alumni
will continue to believe ‘Twice is
Nice,’” says Oganowski.

• David Lee Miller Scholarship for
Creativity in Philosophy. Established to
tribute Miller, a longtime faculty
member in the philosophy department.
The award supports philosophy majors

achievement and development of
creative learning opportunities.
