stefon harris presents <strong>the</strong> African tarantella project. Vibraphonist Stefon<br />
Harris leads a nine-piece ensemble through stunning re-orchestrations <strong>of</strong> Duke Elling<strong>to</strong>n<br />
compositions as well as his own Elling<strong>to</strong>n-inspired suite, The Gardiner Meditations, in this<br />
special concert. Harris’s arrangements make full use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> broad range <strong>of</strong> <strong>to</strong>ne colors <strong>of</strong>fered<br />
by this nonet’s unique instrumentation—clarinet, trombone, flute, viola, and cello in addition<br />
<strong>to</strong> Harris’ vibes and his regular quartet members, pianist Xavier <strong>Davis</strong>, bassist Derrick Hodge,<br />
and drummer Terreon Gully—<strong>to</strong> form a richly textured, sensual ensemble sound that does <strong>the</strong><br />
