Ran lead<strong>of</strong>f leg <strong>of</strong> one quarter mile relay in the <strong>Penn</strong> Relays<br />

For Mercersburg Academy that set a World’s Interscholastic<br />

Record <strong>of</strong> 42.2 seconds.<br />

Jack Watt was a great athlete who participated in Football, Track, Basketball, Baseball, Boxing and Wrestling.<br />

Jack was a Tailback on the 1937 Lansdale HS Football Team that was undefeated, untied, and un-scored upon<br />

until the last four minutes in the last game <strong>of</strong> the season at Doylestown. In addition to being a top rusher in<br />

the Bux-Mont League, Jack was also an effective passer and extra-point kicker (drop kick). He was All-Bux-<br />

Mont Halfback First Team and Honorary Captain <strong>of</strong> the All-League Team.<br />

The 1938 Track team was undefeated, with 33 straight Dual Meet wins under Coach James Crawford. Jack<br />

won the 100-Yard Dash, 120-Yard Low Hurdles, and 220 Yard Dash in every Dual Meet his senior year,<br />

scoring a total <strong>of</strong> 215 points. His cumulative career point total was an impressive 518 points. Jack was<br />

Captain <strong>of</strong> the Track team.<br />

• Track Team was undefeated for 3 Years in Dual Meets, 1936-1938.<br />

• Co-Owner <strong>of</strong> 100 Yard Dash LHS School Record with George Sands.<br />

• Held School Record for 220 Yard Dash and 120 Yard Low Hurdles.<br />

• Ran on 3 one mile relay championship teams at the <strong>Penn</strong> Relays for LHS.<br />

• Jack’s success continued as he ran the Ran first leg <strong>of</strong> ¼ mile relay team at the 1939 <strong>Penn</strong> Relays for<br />

Mercersburg Academy which set a World’s Interscholastic Record at 42.2 Seconds in the rain.<br />
