<strong>2006</strong> <strong>NPAAA</strong> <strong>Hall</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fame</strong> <strong>Inductees</strong><br />
NPHS BOYS WINTER AND SPRING TRACK TEAMS, 1981<br />
STATE CHAMPIONS<br />
<strong>North</strong> <strong>Penn</strong>’s Winter Track Team started the season with a<br />
record in the Mile Run by Blair Mancini – 4:22.5. The Relay Team<br />
<strong>of</strong> Dave Schmitz, Keith Dean, John Hradnansky and Blair Mancini<br />
also starred with a time <strong>of</strong> 3:33.8 at the Philadelphia Spectrum.<br />
At the Meet <strong>of</strong> Champions at Princeton University, the<br />
Distance Medley Relay Team set a school record <strong>of</strong> 10:29.2. The<br />
Two-Mile Relay Team finished second. Kevin Nibbelink finished<br />
second, as did Ryran Gardner in the Triple Jump, and Doug Coyle<br />
finished third in the High Jump.<br />
Blair Mancini finished fourth with a time <strong>of</strong> 4:18.4 in the<br />
High School Invitational Mile Run at the Melrose Games at Madison<br />
Square Garden.<br />
<strong>North</strong> <strong>Penn</strong> won the <strong>Penn</strong>sylvania Track Coaches<br />
Association State Championship held at Lehigh University on February 28, 1981. Results -- <strong>North</strong> <strong>Penn</strong> won 50<br />
points:<br />
Doug Coyle lst High Jump -- 6’4”<br />
Dyran Gardner 2 nd Long Jump -- 21’ 11.5” * (new school record)<br />
Dyran Gardner 2 nd Triple Jump – 47’, 4.5” * (new school record)<br />
Kevin Nibbelink 2 nd 2 Mile Run – 9:33.2<br />
Blair Mancini 2 nd Mile Run – 4:21.22<br />

Dave Schmitz, Blair Mancini 2 nd Mile Relay – 8:13.14<br />
Three <strong>North</strong> <strong>Penn</strong> runners – Keith Dean, Dyran Gardner, Blair Mancini – qualified for and ran in the Eastern<br />
States Championship at Princeton University on March 9, 1981. Results: Blair Mancini won the Mile in Record Time<br />
<strong>of</strong> 4:11.6. Dyran Gardner placed second in the Triple Jump with a school record <strong>of</strong> 47’9.5”.<br />
The Spring Track and Field Team was undefeated for the third straight year in Dual Meets in the Bux-Mont<br />
League. Their record: 9-0. For an encore, the <strong>North</strong> <strong>Penn</strong> Track and Field Team won the District Championship for<br />
the second year in a row.<br />
At the <strong>Penn</strong> Relays, <strong>North</strong> <strong>Penn</strong> won the Bux-Mont Mile Relay (the third year in a row) with a record time. The<br />
NP 3200 Meter Relay Team finished second in the Championship <strong>of</strong> America race at the <strong>Penn</strong> Relays. This same team<br />
<strong>of</strong> Dave Schmitz, Don Travis, John Hradnansky and Blair Mancini won the <strong>Penn</strong>sylvania State Title with a record time<br />
<strong>of</strong> 7:42.65.<br />
Blair Mancini won the 1500 Race at the <strong>Penn</strong> Relays and was named “The Outstanding Schoolboy Track Athlete”<br />
for the meet. Blair was District Champ at 800 Meters and was State Champion at 1600 Meters.<br />
Steve Gildea was District Champ in the Shot Put.<br />
