Eugene Saylor began his scholar/athlete career at Lansdale High School in 1943. He played on<br />

four championship teams and was selected to the All Bux-Mont 1 st Team three times. In 1945, he<br />

played with Lansdale’s American League Baseball Team, and was selected to compete for the “All<br />

American Boy” Award in Shibe Park, Philadelphia.<br />

After his outstanding athlete career at L.H.S., Gene received a scholastic/athletic scholarship to<br />

Drexel Institute <strong>of</strong> Technology School <strong>of</strong> Engineering. He played and lettered in Varsity Football<br />

and Baseball.<br />

In 1947, Gene received a Congressional Appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy where he<br />

continued his athletic career in football (2 years) and baseball (4 years). During that time, Gene<br />

was Eastern Collegiate Stolen Base Champion for 2 years, and had the highest batting average his<br />

senior year. He graduated 54 th in a class <strong>of</strong> 780 in 1951 and was one <strong>of</strong> 37 U.S. N.A. graduates<br />

listed in Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities (1951).<br />

From 1951 to 1982, he served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy, retiring with the rank <strong>of</strong> Captain.<br />

From 1954-57, he pursued and received a Master’s Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine<br />

Engineering, as well as a Degree in Naval Engineering with a specialty in Electronics – both<br />

degrees from M.I.T.
