October 11, 2008
Welcome to everyone attending this evening’s fourth annual NPAAA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This
year’s event is going to be remembered for the 12 individuals and 2 teams being inducted and serve as a
history of North Penn High School athletics including its Legacy Schools.
Since the NPAAA was established in the Year 2000, we have successfully awarded 13 scholarships to
outstanding senior class male and female student athletes. Also, the NPAAA, in conjunction with the James
K. Gulick Award sponsors, have provided 8 scholarships to Track & Field athletes who epitomize qualities of
sportsmanship, fair play, and competitiveness espoused by North Penn High School Coach James K. Gulick,
Sr. Please visit the KnightSite (www.npaaa.org) to view a listing of the individual scholarship winners. In
addition, the NPAAA has reached a milestone of over 270 members and growing every day.
Once again, it is a special honor and privilege to hold the position of President of the North Penn Alumni
Athletic Association and to be part of an organization that is building on its original mission of providing
scholarships to student athletes to successfully establishing North Penn High School’s first Sports Hall of
Fame. By establishing a Sports Hall of Fame we are recognizing the outstanding individual athletes, coaches
and teams that brought honor to themselves and our school. In addition, we are providing future generations
a documented record of our sports history. This history will not only provide a source of pride but also a
standard to emulate. This history originated with our “Legacy Schools”; Hatfield High School, Lansdale High
School, and North Wales High School dating back to 1887 and which were consolidated in 1955 to become
North Penn High School.
Tonight we are honoring individual athletes and teams that represent several of these schools spanning many
decades. These 12 individuals, the undefeated 1948 Lansdale High School Football Team and the 1979 North
Penn High School Girl’s Pennsylvania State Championship Swimming Team, represent individuals and
teams that demonstrated excellence through sacrifice, dedication, courage, hard work, and commitment.
These values were instilled by coaches who dedicated their lives and careers to teaching athletes the cardinal
virtues of ancient Greek philosophy: justice, prudence, temperance, and fortitude. These lessons of virtue
develop individual character that shape and influence the rest of our lives.
At the conclusion of the induction ceremony, you are invited to a reception and refreshments to congratulate
the inductees, reunite with classmates, teammates and meet new friends. By bringing together athletes, teams,
and coach’s spanning many decades we hope to provide a forum and an opportunity to create an atmosphere
for collegiality and reunion. Please make sure you visit the Wall of Honor and Hall of Fame where we have
successfully enshrined 88 individual athletes, coaches and 7 teams.
Sincerely,
