Communication and Grading<br />

Parent-Teacher Conferences (Ref. School Board Policy 505.1)<br />

The conference format is student-led in which the student presents to their parents evidence of their learning and goals.<br />

Teachers rotate the room and try to visit with each family. If a parent would like to request a traditional conference with a<br />

teacher or team, they can contact the team, teacher, or middle school office to make arrangements.<br />

Progress Reports (Ref. School Board Policy 505.1)<br />

The middle school year is divided into four 9 week quarters. Report cards will be sent home with students at the end of each<br />

quarter, except for the end of the year report card which is mailed. Midterm reports will be sent home with student‟s midway<br />

through each quarter. Please check the weekly newsletter or Channel 12, for the dates to expect your child to bring reports<br />

home. Parents are encouraged to sign up at the central office for a password so they can access Infinite Campus (IC). The<br />

Infinite Campus parent portal allows parents to check on their child‟s attendance and grades. Teachers update IC every<br />

Monday.<br />

Weekly Newsletters<br />

Electronic newsletters are sent weekly by the office and teams. Contact the office or teams to be added to the distribution lists.<br />

The office newsletter is also available on the district website at www.indianola.k12.ia.us and in paper form at the<br />

Communication Corner outside the office.<br />

Voicemail<br />

Communication from home to school is supported by the 24-hour voicemail system. Voicemail extension lists are available in<br />

the front of the handbook, on the district website at www.indianola.k12.ia.us, and in the office.<br />

School Cancellation<br />

The cancellation or delay of school will be announced to the media as soon as the decision is made. When weather is<br />

questionable in the morning, please listen to one of the stations listed below for information. Please do not call the school to<br />

see if classes are being held.<br />

Homework Policy<br />

Homework is a necessary part of the educational program, and in order for students to be prepared, homework needs to be<br />

completed on time.<br />

1. Students will turn in all assigned work on the due date. All work must be completed. An incomplete assignment is not an<br />

option.<br />

2. A minimum of 15% will be deducted for any late work.<br />

3. Students not completing assigned work will do the following:<br />

Call parent from classroom.<br />

Stay after school that afternoon to complete the work with the teacher. These work sessions will be held<br />

from 3:20-3:50.<br />

4. If the assignment is not completed and turned in to the teacher before 8:10 the next day, the student will be<br />

assigned a detention. Students will complete work before attending any extra-curricular or co-curricular practice.<br />

5. Students may also be required to stay after school to redo less than quality work.
