STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
Trinitarian Stewardship: God the Father, creator and giver of who
we are and all that we possess; God the Son, our redeemer, and
supreme teacher of Christian Stewardship; God the Spirit, the
activator, the Holy Spirit guiding how we are to use our gifts. The
bottom-line is that one day we will all be held accountable for how
we shared the gifts we were given; how we responded to what we
were taught; and how we acted when inspired. When that day comes,
we pray that through God’s grace we will hear the words, “Well done

MASSES CANCELLED - Due to the Priest’s Retreat, the weekday masses at St. Benedict
and St. Joseph are cancelled May 28, 29, 30, 31. Mass intentions scheduled for these
days have been rescheduled. Please contact the parish office for any inquiries. All are
welcome to attend the weekday masses at Our Lady of Mercy at 12:10 p.m. on these days.
2nd ANNUAL BAKE SALE AND RAFFLE
ST. BENEDICT’S CHILDREN’S LITURGY
In support of our ongoing Helping/Sharing/Caring
focus, our children will be hosting a bake sale after the 8:30 and
10:30 Mass on Sunday, June 9. The children will be making and
selling the baked goods to experience what “volunteering” and
“helping” is all about. We have made donations to local groups/
organizations in the past that focussed on the health and well
being of children. Our donations supported our often used theme
of “Children helping Children”…..(you are never too little to
help!) This year, proceeds will be donated to Pathways Centre for
Children and R.A.C.H. (Fr. Jim’s family charity). Anyone wishing to
donate baked goods may bring them to the hall before Mass.

Trinity Sunday
With the Victoria Day Weekend behind us
we can look forward to longer days and
stable temperatures. With that said I
realize that the thermostat is showing
cooler temperatures than we have enjoyed this past weekend.
But it is still May and we never can predict what spring holds in
store for us. I have really enjoyed the spring blossoms this
year - the tulips, the crab apple trees, the lilacs, the
forsythias - to name a few. They have been magnificent.
This afternoon we are celebrating our First Communions. The
families of these little ones have worked hard to make this day
special for their children. We are very excited for the children
as they began this special faith journey. Father Raju and Lee
Downie have been teaching the children in the classroom and
have done an excellent job with the children.
I am leaving for my annual retreat this afternoon and I will be
back on Friday evening. I am really looking forward to spending
some quiet time with the Lord during this week. I will be on
retreat at Holy Family Retreat House in Oxley on the shores of
Lake Erie. Please remember me in your prayers as well as the
other priests who are spending the week with me. Father Jim
Carruthers, a Basilian priest, is leading us in the retreat.
Next week my column will be brief and I will be hanging out the
sign - GONE FISHING!

CHRISTIAN LIFE SEMINAR (CLS)
Come and join to attend a Christian Life Seminar at Our Lady
of Mercy Church Hall, Sarnia. A wonderful group called
“Couples for Christ Foundation for Family and Life” will conduct
the seminar on Saturday, June 8 at 8 a.m.
The Spirit-filled seminar is open to all adult Christian men and
women (married, singles, widows, or widowers). The seminar is
free including snacks, lunch and refreshments. The only
requirement is your attendance… your willingness and openness
to hear more about the Gospel.

Tues. May 28 - CWL Regional Meeting. This will be
the last meeting until the Fall. It will be a Dinner/Meeting at
St. Benedict Church Hall at 6 p.m. with a catered dinner, $25
per person. If you plan to attend please contact Pat Daamen

Tues. June 11 - CWL Mass and Pot Luck. Mass will be at
6 p.m. with presentation of Service Awards. Food and fun to
follow. We are asking everyone to bring a favourite dish or
dessert, and as in previous years, we are asking for donations of
baby articles: bibs, small toys, undershirts, or other items a new
mother would need.
Sat. June 22 - “Catch the Fire” (rescheduled), hosted by
St. Michael’s Church, B.G. at 9 a.m. Limited seating. Please call

St. Joseph CWL & Our Lady of Mercy CWL
Our June meeting will be held at St. Benedict Church on June 11
together with St. Benedict CWL. We will join them for a pot

Elections for our new slate of officers for July 2013/July 2014
take place at the June 4th meeting. Nominations are currently
being received. Members, for more information contact Charlie

Tues. June 4 - Executive meeting at 6 p.m. with general
meeting following 7 p.m. mass. This is our election night for new
executive for 2013/2014. All members are asked to attend.
Fri. June 7 - Pot Luck supper and Card games. Come out and
enjoy the fun and fellowship. Card nights will resume in the Fall.

“HERBS FOR HAITI”
DEGROOT’S/RAYJON JUNE FUNDRAISER
DeGroots & Rayjon are partnering again to raise funds for
Rayjon’s Haiti projects.
From Thursday June 6 until Sunday June 9, DeGroot’s is
selling a 14” planter of fresh mixed herbs for $25 with all
profits going to Rayjon. This planter is large, lush, a great
value, and could be an excellent Father’s Day gift. The planter
can be enjoyed and used as it is, or could be transplanted into
your garden.
Quantities are limited and the time frame to purchase is short.
Look for the Rayjon display area at DeGroot’s. Hours to
purchase from a Rayjon volunteer are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on
Thursday, Friday & Saturday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday.
This is a great opportunity for both our community and Rayjon.

MEMORIAL WALL PLAQUE
St. Patrick’s Catholic High School is seeking help in finding
information in their plan to create a memorial plaque to honour
Catholic students that served in World War II and the Korean
War. On our church bulletin boards is a poster with pictures
taken from a 1945 Sarnia Observer newspaper of Sarnia’s
fallen soldiers, along with a list of names of Separate School
students that served in World War II. During that time the
only Catholic Churches/Schools in Sarnia were Our Lady of
Mercy, St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s. Many of the names on the
list have a last name and an initial, they would like to include
their first names also, and if possible any photographs. If anyone
has name information or would like to submit a photograph
(they can scan the original and e-mail a copy of it in some digital
format, such as a Tiff, or they can bring the photograph to
St. Patrick’s High School where they will scan it there and

FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION
(Latin Party Activity)
The Hispanic Catholic Community of Sarnia-Lambton will be
hosting a dinner and dance activity to celebrate Father's Day.
The ticket includes: traditional Latin-American dinner, live
mariachi music during dinner and live salsa-merengue band for
after-dinner dancing. It will be lots of fun and all proceeds will
go to support charity activities for Central and South America
(through SOLFORLA - Support of Lambton for Latin America).
Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 7 to 11 years
old, and FREE for children under 6. This Catholic fundraiser will
be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Hall on June 22 from
6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
BISHOP’S DINNER FOR LONDON AND
SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES
Most Rev. Ronald P. Fabbro, CSB will host the Fifth Annual
Bishop's Dinner for London & Surrounding Communities on
Tuesday, June 18 at the London Convention Centre.
The organizing committee is pleased to announce that you will
be joined by the acclaimed Canadian tenor John McDermott.
Mr. McDermott has performed across Canada, the United
States and Europe, playing to packed houses and important
public events, not least as a regular national anthem soloist at
Maple Leaf hockey games.
Tickets are $125 per person and eligible for a $50 tax receipt.
