Jesus’ Manifesto – Luke 4:18-19 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.’ In these verses Jesus sets out his mission by making the words of the prophet his own. There are direct references to: • • • • bringing good news to the poor comforting the brokenhearted releasing the captives proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favour DISCUSSION A key part of our challenge in incarnational ministry is to turn phrases like these that fall off the tongue so easily into concrete actions. Getting the balance right Incarnational ministry involves a balance between being and doing. Our actions flow out of the personal values that make us who we are – indeed they are the best evidence we have of expressing who we are. Moreover, we can also become changed and renewed as we ‘do’ because doing is vital to growth and learning.
