Introduction
Love is a Verb is a learning resource to inspire and equip Christians to put their faith into
action in tough places. It is available on DVD and will also, in due course, be online.
It has developed from the Urban Mission Toolkit training course which has been running
in the UK for the last 8 years. It is designed for groups and individuals who want to know
how to make a difference.
We believe that the Bible points to three key priorities for God’s people in responding to
those affected by poverty and injustice.
Making Room letting people experience the extravagant welcome
of God
Freeing Captives helping people find freedom from the things that
hold them captive
Seeking Justice challenging and changing the injustices that
oppress people
Love is a Verb explores different ways of putting these priorities into action.
Love is a Verb combines input from experienced practitioners, practical exercises
and discussion, some issues for reflection, and inspiring examples of people already
enganged in their communities. It addresses many of the issues of poverty and injustice
that concern us, but that are seldom addressed by churches.
The first three titles available in the Love is a Verb series are:
COACH Community Mentoring Toby Baxter (Catalyst)
Concrete Faith – Incarnational Living Matt Wilson (Eden Project)
Making Room – Rediscovering Hospitality Fran Beckett (Restore, Peckham)
Titles in the series coming soon:
What If? – Can transformation happen? Mark Perrott (Catalyst)
Respect – Working with Gangs Patrick Regan (XLP)
Just Living – Challenging Injustice Fran Beckett (Restore, Peckham)
In due course other topics will include Addictions, Street Prostitution, Domestic Violence,
Homelessness, Debt, The Changing Face of Old Age and many others.
Love is a Verb responds to the challenge, “Learn to do Good! Seek justice, encourage
the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.”
Isaiah 1:17
