Hazing<br />
Hazing is defined as harassing by exacting unnecessary or disagreeable work,<br />
harassing by banter, ridicule, or criticism or playing silly, abusive and humiliating<br />
tricks by way of initiation. Hazing is strictly forbidden in <strong>Kingsport</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>.<br />
Hazing activities include, but are not limited to:<br />
• Physical abuse<br />
• Physical confinement<br />
• Consumption of disgusting substances<br />
• Consumption of prohibited substances<br />
• Inappropriate clothing<br />
• Commission on illegal acts<br />
• Humiliation rituals<br />
Sexual Harassment<br />
The <strong>Kingsport</strong> Board of Education strives to provide the students of <strong>Kingsport</strong><br />
<strong>City</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> with a climate that is conducive to a quality learning environment.<br />
The Board of Education has a sexual harassment policy in place to encourage all<br />
members of the learning community to be proactive in providing a climate in each<br />
school that is inviting, receptive, caring, supportive and flexible. The policy is meant<br />
to discourage sexual harassment by employees or other students.<br />
Sexual harassment activity toward any student will not be tolerated. Sexual<br />
harassment is defined as conduct, advances and/or gestures of a sexual nature that:<br />
• Unreasonably interfere with a student’s work or educational opportunities.<br />
• Create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.<br />
• Imply that submission to such conduct is made an explicit or implicit term of<br />
receiving grades or credit.<br />
• Imply that submission to or rejection of such conduct will be used as a basis for<br />
determining the student’s grades and/or participation in a student activity.<br />
Any student or any parent of a student attending a <strong>Kingsport</strong> <strong>City</strong> School shall report<br />
any incident of harassment to the child’s teacher, school administrator or counselor.<br />
If the offending person is an employee, the victim of sexual harassment shall report<br />
these conditions to the immediate supervisor of the offending person. Confidentiality<br />
will be maintained and no reprisals or retaliation will occur as a result of good faith<br />
reporting of charges of sexual harassment.<br />
Sexual harassment of one student by another student will be addressed in the school<br />
Code of Conduct, is classified as a Category II or III offense, and carries with it the<br />
possibility of suspension and/or referral to an outside agency for further action.<br />
Sexual harassment will constitute cause for disciplinary action. In determining<br />
