At the dinner Friday night, there were prizes for
things like - who came the shortest miles (~10
miles), who came the longest miles (from
Hawaii!), who came the longest miles in a
Boxster (Nevada), and some incredible door
prizes including several of Bob Chapman’s
racing car pictures. There was also an
especially moving memorial for Chuck
“Porsche Pete” Hammersmith, founder of
Porsche Pete’s Boxster Board and BRBS.
Chuck passed away last summer and there was
a touching video memorial and tributes made in
his honor. His wife, 2 daughters and son-in-law
were honored also. It was a bittersweet evening
with stories and memorials to Chuck and the
reminder that BRBS lives because of him and
will continue to flourish because of his love and
devotion the Porsche’s and the people who
share his passion. Chuck must have been
smiling on us all because for the first time since
we’ve been going (this was our 3 rd time) the
weather was wonderful – sunny, warm, and NO
RAIN! Oh yeah – our group won the fun run!
Saturday morning was for optional drives
to Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, or
just a drive through the surrounding scenic
mountains. Later in the morning there were
tech sessions by Pedro Bonilla and his Mod
Shop – showing different mods you can do
to your car. For those wanting to try doing
their own mods, Pedro and his assistance were
there to lend a hand and expert advice. After
lunch there was a tech session by Suncoast
Porsche, one of the BRBS sponsors. For the
non-car nuts, there was shopping in Blowing
Rock which offers blocks of unique stores and
also a spa session for those looking to chill
out. The evening brought a cocktail reception
and a farewell dinner. The bar was hopping
afterwards for darts, swapping stories, and
saying goodbye to old friends.
If you enjoy riding with your top down,
beautiful, scenic mountain roads, friendly,
passionate people, and great food(!!) you may
want to consider making a trip next year to the
Blue Ridge Boxster Summit. It’s fun to caravan
down (even with side trips). And you don’t
even have to have a Boxster to attend!
