The Cherohala Scenic Highway was the most<br />

scenic part <strong>of</strong> the route. I was watching the<br />

GPS unit and it said we were above the 5300 ft<br />

mark. The picture below is from a scenic view<br />

lookout point. I really would have liked to have<br />

seen it on a clear day. I can just imagine how<br />

beautiful it must be with full sunshine. They<br />

have a number <strong>of</strong> places you can stop to enjoy<br />

the view and I highly recommend it.<br />

Member Appreciation Outing<br />

We appreciate you!! On Sunday, July 20,<br />

the <strong>Lincoln</strong> <strong>Trail</strong> Region is having a member<br />

appreciation outing to say thanks to our<br />

membership. We will meet at Association<br />

Park Lake Bloomington, in Hudson IL (near<br />

Bloomington), from 2 PM until 5 PM. The LTR<br />

will provide the meal, s<strong>of</strong>t drinks, and a desert.<br />

All you need to bring is yourself, your family<br />

or guest and your own chairs. Please contact<br />

com) so we have an idea <strong>of</strong> how many to expect.<br />

The roads were in very good condition with<br />

US-129 being the better <strong>of</strong> the roads.<br />

So if you are looking for a beautiful and fun<br />

drive take a look at a trip to the Dragon. You<br />

don’t have to drive fast to have a good time,<br />

just take your time and enjoy it. I recommend<br />

that you take the drive in the middle <strong>of</strong> the<br />

week to avoid the traffic.<br />

From 55 North get <strong>of</strong>f at Veterans Parkway. Left<br />

on Pipe Line Road (turns into 1700E). Continue<br />

for 6.5 miles. Turn right when road T’s this<br />

will be 2350N. Go 0.6 miles then turn left on<br />

1750E, continue straight for ~ .9 miles and you<br />

will pass through the park gates. Go past Riley<br />

Starkey Park and .2 miles on the left you will see<br />

Association Park. Then look for a <strong>Porsche</strong> Flag.<br />

Total distance from 55 and Veterans Parkway 8.6<br />

miles.<br />
