32nd Med. Bde. commander<br />
recognizes civilian staff<br />

Col. Maureen Coleman recently recognized<br />
five employees assigned to the 32nd<br />
Medical Brigade staff during a ceremony at<br />
the brigade headquarters.<br />
Coleman presented Linda Lara the<br />
Meritorious Civilian Service award for her<br />
exceptional performance as an administrative<br />
assistant. Lara prepares command group<br />
correspondence and manages brigade personnel<br />
actions, reports, and correspondence<br />
that exceed 170 administrative actions<br />
monthly. Coleman noted that Lara is the<br />
first to volunteer her services for any special<br />
occasion that requires a team effort to plan<br />
command special events for Soldiers such as<br />
the Soldier Medic Run and Fiesta.<br />
Rosario Avila was presented the<br />
Meritorious Civilian<br />
Service award for her<br />
duty performance and<br />
dedication to unit mission<br />
as an administrative<br />
assistant assigned<br />
to the brigade operations<br />
section. Avila was<br />
recognized for her<br />
work ethic, high-energy<br />
contributions to<br />
event planning, and her<br />
ideas to improve<br />
brigade-operating procedures.<br />
Rosemary<br />
Rodriguez received the<br />
Civilian Achievement<br />
award as the brigade<br />
headquarters’ secretary<br />
assigned to the logistics<br />
section. She was recognized<br />
for her anticipation<br />
of requirements<br />
and unforeseen tasks in<br />
addition to success<br />
planning activities that<br />
require coordination<br />
among various staff<br />
elements.<br />
Coleman presented<br />
the Civilian<br />
Achievement Medal to Joseph Jones who is<br />
assigned to the brigade human resources<br />
division. He was recognized for his work<br />
establishing the command electronic awards<br />
program and the associated user instruction<br />
manual that allows the command to process<br />
more than 900 award recommendations significantly<br />
decreasing processing time and<br />
administrative errors.<br />
Robert Garcia was presented the<br />
Civilian Achievement award for his contributions<br />
to the brigade logistics department.<br />
Coleman noted his management of<br />
resources and careful planning supported<br />
cost efficiencies in brigade operations.<br />
Garcia was also recognized for his dedication<br />
identifying future requirements, ability<br />
to adapt to changing work demand priorities,<br />
and customer satisfaction related to his<br />
support of the three subordinate battalions.<br />
Texas Department of<br />
Transportation announces<br />
IH-35 construction<br />
The Texas Department of<br />
Transportation announces the closure of<br />
the I-35 BAMC exit (heading south on I-<br />
35) for four to six months to add an<br />
additional traffic lane on the right side of<br />
I-35 between the Rittiman Road I-35 onramp<br />
and the I-35 BAMC exit ramp.<br />
Additional improvements will also be<br />
made at this time. These improvements<br />
will significantly enhance I-35 traffic<br />
management when they are completed.<br />
During the construction BAMC staff,<br />
patients and visitors to <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Sam</strong><br />
<strong>Houston</strong> driving south on I-35 will have<br />
to take an alternate route to enter<br />
BAMC and the FSH Binz-Engleman<br />
gate. Exit at Rittiman and follow the<br />
access road to BAMC or continue pass<br />
BAMC exit and take the SBC Center<br />
exit and loop north to Binz-Engleman or<br />
BAMC I-35 north exits.<br />
Driving south on I-35, get in the left<br />
lane and follow 410 Loop south. Take<br />
the first exit after the 410 Loop and I-35<br />
split and follow it to Binz-Engleman.<br />
Enter BAMC at the Binz-Engleman<br />
Beach gate. This gate is authorized for<br />
decals only and operates Monday<br />
through Friday from 6 a. m. to 5 p.m.
