TERM 1 SPORTS REPORT
The 2010 Maribyrnong College
Swimming Sports were held at Oak
Park Swimming Pool on Thursday
the 18th of February. The day
was a great success, with large
participation rates in both the
swimming events and the novelty
events for non-swimmers. The
introduction of Houses to this year’s
swimming sports added colour and
enthusiastic support to the event,
with many outstanding outfits in red,
green, gold or blue.
The swimming events began with an
invitation event to highlight some of
our outstanding swimmers. All eight
swimmers in the invitation event had

represented Victoria or won a State
championship gold medal in 2009.
This was followed by the freestyle
relays where 164 students took part.
Novelty events were also very
popular, with the water volleyball
competition and water based relays
very popular. The day ended with
students enjoying some free time in
the main pool or riding the 30-metre
waterslide.
Throughout the day we witnessed
some fantastic swimming. The
following students were recognised
as Year Level Swimming Champions:
Section C Swimming Championships
Maribyrnong College were convincing winners of the
Section C Swimming Carnival, winning the overall
competition by almost 300 points, and winning the junior
boys and girls, intermediate boys and girls and senior girls
sections. Maribyrnong won 54 of the 72 races on the day.

In the end it was Gold House who
took the honours with a 3 point win
over Green House.
Interschool Golf
Year 7, 9 and 10 Sports Teams
Congratulations to Georgia Nankivell and Daniel
Willems who have qualified for the VSSSA State Golf
championships after strong performances at the
recent Western Zone finals held at Bacchus Marsh
golf course.
Good luck to the remaining Year levels who will be competing over the next two weeks as the
newsletter goes to print at the Western Bayside District Sport.
The Sports Coordinator Darren Clark and coaches are confident in more teams making it through
to the Western Zone Finals.
