BBC CLAIMS IPTV COULD PUSH
UP BROADBAND PRICES
Broadband prices in the UK could be driven up if
IPTV catches on, according to the director general
of the BBC, Mark Thompson. He admitted that the
prevalence of IPTV may result in consumers paying
more for their broadband. However, Thompson
insisted there may be some advantages to any price
hikes, as they could encourage internet service providers
such as Sky and Virgin Media to invest more
in the UK’s broadband networks. This would enable
the infrastructure to cope better with the high bandwidth
and speed requirements of IPTV services.
