Steven J. Medina, age 35, of<br />
Waterville, passed away<br />
January 20, 2012 at<br />
Community Memorial Health<br />
Care in Marysville.<br />
Steven was born June 21,<br />
1976 at Torrance, California to<br />
Joe and Katharyn (Bragunier)<br />
Medina. He graduated from<br />
Carson High School in Carson<br />
California in 1994. On<br />
September 10, 1998 at Las<br />
Vegas, Nevada he married<br />
Mary T. Trani. In September<br />
Donald F. White, 80, of<br />
Hanover, KS, died Tuesday<br />
evening, January 17, 2012 at<br />
the Hanover Hospital.<br />
Visitation was Friday,<br />
January 20, from 10 a.m. until<br />
5 p.m. at the Hanover<br />
Mortuary.<br />
A rosary service was held at<br />
7:00 p.m., Friday, at St. John’s<br />
Catholic Church in Hanover.<br />
Mass of Christian Burial was<br />
2006 he moved to Waterville<br />
and was joined by his family<br />
six months later. Steven was a<br />
Saw Operator for Landoll<br />
Corporation.<br />
He was a member of the<br />
Waterville United Methodist<br />
Church and the Waterville<br />
Lions Club. He loved to help<br />
people, whether it was<br />
installing a car stereo, helping<br />
build a Habitat for Humanity<br />
home or just being a friend.<br />
While in California he coached<br />
his sons Little League<br />
Football. Mostly, Steve loved<br />
being with, and doing things<br />
with his children and family.<br />
Survivors include his wife<br />
Mary, his four children Jesse,<br />
Isacc, Inez and Janelle, his<br />
mother Kathy Horney and husband<br />
Ed of Waterville, his<br />
father Joe Medina of Carson,<br />
California, his grandfather<br />
Chuck Bragunier of Waterville,<br />
a brother Tony Loewen and<br />
wife Rochelle of Waterville,<br />
two sisters; Shannon Conti and<br />
Mary E. “Betty” Sedivy<br />

92, of <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Rapids</strong>, passed<br />
away on Thursday, January 19,<br />

Eldred H. Schaefer, 81, of<br />
Bremen, KS, died Thursday,<br />
January 19, 2012 at Cambridge<br />
Place in Marysville.<br />
Visitation was Sunday,<br />
January 22, from 10 a.m. until<br />
9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in<br />
Marysville. The family will<br />
receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.<br />
A funeral service was held at<br />
2:00 p.m., Monday, January 23,<br />
at Immanuel Lutheran Church<br />
near Bremen.<br />
Burial was in the church<br />
cemetery.<br />
Eldred was born on February<br />
23, 1930 at Bremen, KS, the<br />
Hospital in Marysville.<br />
Betty was born at Irving on<br />
March 28, 1919, the only child<br />
of Herbert and Edna E.<br />
(Strader) Sheaffer. She graduated<br />
from Irving High School<br />
in 1937. On April 26, 1939 she<br />
married Marvin M. Sedivy at<br />
her parents home in Irving. He<br />
passed away on June 16, 1992.<br />
She was a member of the<br />
New Hope Evangelical<br />
Presbyterian Church in <strong>Blue</strong><br />
<strong>Rapids</strong>. She had been active in<br />
the Presbyterian Church most<br />
of her life. She had been a<br />
member of the Ladies Aide<br />
Society at the Czech<br />
Presbyterian Church which<br />
used to be South of <strong>Blue</strong><br />
<strong>Rapids</strong> and then of the United<br />
Presbyterian Women at the<br />
held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday,<br />
January 21, at St. John’s<br />
Catholic Church. Father David<br />
Metz will officiate.<br />
Janet Fritschi will play the<br />
organ while the church choir<br />
sings “This Day Was Made For<br />
The Lord”, “Be Not Afraid”, “I<br />
Am the Bread of Life” and<br />
“Amazing Grace.”<br />
The pallbearers will be Mike<br />
White, Kurt Wilson, Nathan<br />
White, Dustin Wilson,<br />
Nicholas White, Colin White<br />
and Brandon Wilson.<br />
Burial will be at the St.<br />
John’s Catholic Cemetery.<br />
Don was born Aug. 26, 1931<br />
at Marysville, to Bernard and<br />
Mary (Klataske) White. He<br />
attended Pecenka School and<br />
graduated from Marysville<br />
High School in 1950. He then<br />
joined the National Guard from<br />
1951-52. In 1952, he was drafted<br />
into the Army and served in<br />
son of Lester and Martha<br />
(Schotte) Schaefer.<br />
He graduated from<br />
Marysville High School in<br />
1947. He served in the U.S.<br />
Army during the Korean War<br />
as a Private First Class, Battery<br />
B 154th, Field Artillery<br />
Battalion. After his honorable<br />
discharge on August 24, 1953,<br />
he returned home and farmed<br />
north of Bremen.<br />
On April 5, 1953, he married<br />
Verena L. Bott at St. John’s<br />
Lutheran Church, Palmer, KS.<br />
Eldred was a lifelong member<br />
of Immanuel Lutheran<br />

United Presbyterian Church.<br />
Betty is survived by two<br />
sons; Nikolas J. Sedivy and<br />
wife Melodie of Barnes, and<br />
M. Patrick Sedivy and wife<br />
Mary of Waxahachie, Texas, by<br />
three grandchildren and a<br />
great-granddaughter.<br />

Home in <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Rapids</strong> with<br />
Pastor Dick Coleman officiating.<br />
Music was provided by<br />
organist Melinda Christie who<br />
accompanied Carol Hood as<br />
she sang “Thy Word” and “It Is<br />
Well With My Soul”. The congregation<br />
sang “God Be With<br />
You Till We Meet Again” at the<br />
conclusion of the service.<br />

After his honorable discharge<br />
in 1954, he returned to Hanover<br />
and farmed with his family.<br />
On January 24, 1959, he<br />
married Joyce Wilson at St.<br />
John’s Catholic Church in<br />
Hanover. They were blessed<br />
with four children.<br />
Don was a member of St.<br />
John’s Catholic Church, 50+<br />
year member of Knights of<br />
Columbus of the 3rd degree,<br />
50+ year member of the<br />
American Legion and a NRA<br />
member.<br />
He was active in the farming,<br />
enjoyed the cattle, helped with<br />
fall harvest and planted his<br />
winter wheat. Don liked going<br />
to the Pony for coffee. Over his<br />
lifetime, Don was a 13 gallon<br />
blood donor. Last summer he<br />
was able to enjoy ten days in<br />
Alaska where he caught an 86<br />
lb. Halibut while deep sea fish-<br />
Church near Bremen. He<br />
served as a church Elder,<br />
Treasurer, was a member of the<br />
choir and Men’s Club. He was<br />
also a Herkimer Township<br />
Trustee.<br />
He was preceded in death by<br />
his parents; and wife, Verena<br />
Schaefer, on Oct. 14, 2004.<br />
Survivors include two sons,<br />
Doug (Tammy) Schaefer,<br />
Bremen, KS, and Dave (Jenny)<br />
Schaefer, Topeka, KS; five<br />
daughters, Laurel (Jon)<br />
Jorgenson, Parker, CO, Ruth<br />
(Neil) Lohmeyer, Lincoln, NE,<br />
Judy (Kevin) Riggert, Omaha,<br />

burial at Riverside Cemetery.<br />
