General
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is Qantas changing the domestic business class fare structure and what are the
benefits?
Following an internal review in conjunction with customer feedback, Qantas is introducing a
new domestic business class fare structure for travel within Australia which provides greater
accessibility and an increased range of fares.
2. What is changing?
We are introducing C class and expanding D class and associated pricepoints across all
domestic point to point routes, excluding some throughfares.
Note that there are no changes to the existing fare conditions.
3. When will the changes be effective?
The new domestic business class fare structure applies for fares sold on or after 30
November 2011.
All of the changes apply to business class fares. There will be no changes made to economy
class fares.
Centres, Qantas airports sales desks and Travel Agents and will be reflected in all GDS
Fare Families
7. How are the new fares structured?
Business class fares will now comprise four fare classes J, C, D and I as opposed to the
current three fare classes J, D and I.
We will use the following fare basis codes.
New Structure
Fare Family Booking Class Fare Basis
J J
Business
C CBIZ
D DBIZ*
I I ^
* D class will be available on point to point markets excluding some through fares.
^ Initially I class will only be available for international through connections.
8. Will all fare classes be available across all routes?
J and C fare class will be available on all routes.
D class will be available on point to point markets excluding some through fares.
Initially I class will only be available for international through connections.
Refer to your GDS for specific fare offerings on individual markets.
9. What is the benefit to customers with the introduction of additional fare classes, in the
Business fare family?
The changes are aimed at improving accessibility to a range of competitive fares.
Existing Bookings
10. What will happen to bookings ticketed prior to 30 November 2011?
These bookings will be unaffected by the changes. Existing bookings will remain in the same
booking class as originally ticketed. The fare rules are those which apply to the ticketed fare
at the date of purchase.
11. What happens if a customer wants to make a change to an existing booking ticketed
prior to 30 November 2011 after the changes are introduced?
Provided that the new base fare (excluding Ticket Taxes*) is of equal to or of a higher value,
a customer can change to one of the new fares in the revised domestic business class fare
structure.
Example
On 10 September 2011, a customer purchases a DOX fare (Business) for travel between
Sydney and Melbourne on 11 January 2012 for $558 (plus Ticket Taxes*). On 17 December
2011, the customer wishes to change this booking to now travel on 18 March 2012 instead.
22 November 2011 v5
D class is available on the new date but is of lesser value than the originally purchased D
class so DBIZ can not be booked as it is of lesser value than the original DOX fare.
The reissue process is as follows:
OLD TICKET
DOX AUD 558
NEW TICKET
CBIZ AUD 624 Original DOX fare conditions have an “equal or higher fare”
base fare requirement
New DBIZ base fare is lower than DOX fare, therefore the
customer is required to purchase a CBIZ fare
CHANGE FEE AUD 0 Change fee does not apply to Business class
ADCOL AUD 66^ ^Additional Service fees may apply. Refer to issuing office
for details.
Following the change, the Business class conditions of the new CBIZ fare will apply.
Fares and fees above are illustrative only – examples above show base fares and do not
show the calculation of Ticket Taxes, which must be added. Refer to the applicable fare rule
in the GDS for current fare levels, Ticket Taxes, change fees and fare rules.
To assist with the interpretation of Qantas published Domestic fares, please refer to the
Domestic Standard Condition document available at qantas.com/agents.
* Ticket Taxes means all taxes, fees, levies and charges that are payable by the purchaser of
an airline ticket, including amounts imposed by airports and taxing authorities and airline
imposed charges such as fuel, insurance and environmental surcharges, regardless of
whether a fare is payable for the ticket.
LAXSYD D class will be mapped to SYDMEL D class, subject to availability.
