Analyze Attendee Flow Patterns in a Large Show<br />
• What do attendees do when they enter the show floor; do they turn right do they turn left do they go<br />
straight?<br />
• What affect does aisle configuration have?<br />
• How do lounges, food courts, Internet cafés, registration and building features affect attendee traffic<br />
flow? Over the 4 days of the event?<br />
• What about exhibitor giveaways and specials on the show floor?<br />
• What affect does a popular exhibitor have in a given product category with other exhibitors of the<br />
same category nearby?<br />
• What about merchandising the show floor should the large bellwether exhibitors be in front?<br />
• What does registration location influence over the days of the show?<br />
• What affect does venue have from year to year on traffic flow patterns?<br />
Solution:<br />
The lead retrieval data was obtained from the registration <strong>com</strong>pany and overlaid onto the floor plan. A color<br />
coded animated map was generated that allowed for the ability to analyze the attendee flow patterns in<br />
many ways. Colors were used with dark blue being the least amount of leads and red being the most leads<br />
captured. The animation used an hourly consolidation of leads captured per booth.<br />
EXPOCAD CSI (convention statistical<br />
inquiry) was used to generate the<br />
animation. The technology is contained in<br />
the latest release EXPOCAD 7. “As it is a<br />
feature of the software, it cost us nothing<br />
to generate extremely valuable and<br />
informative metrics. Patterns are already<br />
emerging and over time we will know<br />
the effects of venue, special floor plan<br />
features, etc. on attendee traffic. We<br />
will use this information to drive sales,<br />
increase traffic flow and have a better<br />
show for exhibitor and attendee.”
