(8 ¾ x 12 ¾ in); with a hand-coloured Ackermann
aquatint of the House of Lords from The Microcosm of

when the carriage is overturned, signed, inscribed For
the Royal Society, and dated 1789, on verso, aquatint
with elaborate hand-colouring, heightened with gum
arabic, each c.300 x 500mm. (11 ¾ x 19 ¾ in), unframed

*** This pair of plates, presumably for presentation to
the Royal Society, are examples of the inventiveness
that made John Hatchett the foremost carriage builder
of the late 18th century.
