Appendix 1: Transcript Summary of Synchronous Discussion If this type of collaboration online was to be repeated would you have any recommendations for further projects. • They felt the small size of the group was helpful • They liked the length of the pilot, short and sweet but would have liked a lead in period of perhaps a week or two to get the kids up to speed with the program • They did not like the timing, straight after a holiday. If it was to be repeated in the autumn term they suggested end of October/ beginning of November • They liked that it was just one piece of software for all three weeks, as pupils confidence grew and they became increasingly independent • They appreciated the immediate feedback, no waiting around for the Board to get back to you • They did not feel it was necessary to meet before face-to-face as they had created mental images of everyone in their head To date this type of environment... a VLE, (virtual learning environment), has not been used in Northern Ireland with primary school pupils. Do you think it has potential for this age group and if so, in what context. • It would be nice to have children talk like this on a specific topic, perhaps for EMU links, p6/7, potential for children composing a joint story, where all contribute towards the final piece In light of the fact that all Primary schools in Northern Ireland have the C2k Schoolbox software, do you have any recommendations for how schools can be supported in their use of this software? • They would like face to face help from real people who know what they are facing • They preferred the little and often model (1.30 to 3.30 was suggested) for becoming familiar with new software and teachers being made accountable for having used it perhaps in 6 weekly notes • Whole staff training as a way to get it all kick started 7
