Touring - the facts<br />

Accommodation cont’d:<br />

Reception: Most hotels have English-speaking staff at<br />

reception. Any needs you have should be directed through<br />

them, for example if the towels need changing or a light<br />

requires fixing. Generally, you will find the staff helpful and<br />

friendly, especially in the more traditional older style hotels.<br />

However, staff tend to be as pleasant with you as you are<br />

with them.<br />

Hotel notice board: Your Tour Manager will place an<br />

information sheet or ‘Day Sheet’ at each hotel confirming details<br />

of the programme. Please check the notice board regularly.<br />

Porterage: We find that young people on holiday can easily<br />

carry their own reasonably-sized suitcases which means there is<br />

no endless waiting, in your room, for the porters to arrive with<br />

the luggage. Hence porterage is not included in hotels.<br />

Telephones: Most hotels have direct-dial facilities and should<br />

you telephone home, we ask you to settle your bill the night<br />

before departure at reception. Remember that hotel phone<br />

bills can be very expensive, we recommend you use your<br />

<strong>Contiki</strong> ekit Phonecard to make your phone calls home using<br />

the toll-free access numbers, which will be cheaper.<br />

Check with your Tour Manager to find out if the hotel allows<br />

0800 numbers to be dialled. Remember - even if the hotel<br />

does not allow access to 0800 numbers, you can still dial<br />

one of the local rate numbers listed at www.contiki.ekit.com.<br />

Alternatively, most cities have international phone centres,<br />

which your Tour Manager will gladly point out for you.<br />

Laundry: Laundry facilities are available at some hotels.<br />

However, the service normally takes one full day and is not<br />

normally available during weekends. It is, therefore, only<br />

possible to arrange laundry on two-night stops. Please note it<br />

can be expensive and in some cities your Tour Manager may<br />

be able to suggest alternatives.<br />

Security: We strongly recommend you use the hotel security<br />

boxes where available. Please remember that you will need<br />

to keep your passport with you if you intend to cash<br />

travellers cheques during the day. And don’t forget to collect<br />

all items from your security box before you leave the hotel!<br />

Remember to keep your valuables and passport with you<br />

at all times.
